Paklena Beach, Vrboska – warm turquoise sea, pebbles and sandy bottom among the pines

Paklena Beach is located on the southern side of the Glavica peninsula near Vrboska, just a short walk from the more well-known Soline beach. Although it is very close to a developed bathing area, the atmosphere is entirely different: Paklena is more natural, quieter, and surrounded by pine trees and rocky shores.

It is particularly noted for its warm waters and the rocks that heat up significantly in the sun during the summer, which is how the cove got its name.

On Google Maps, the beach is marked as “Plaža Paklina”, but the local and official name is Paklena Beach or Uvala Paklena. Nearby, you may also see the label Kiki’s Beach, which refers to the same coastal area and should not be considered a separate main beach.

Pebble shore and sandy seabed

Paklena is a good example of a beach where one should distinguish between the appearance of the shore and what lies beneath the sea.

The main part of the beach is pebbly, with natural rocks and stone slabs on the sides of the cove. These areas also provide a place to sunbathe and often offer a bit more privacy than the central part.

The seabed in front of the beach is predominantly sandy, which gives the water a striking turquoise colour. Entry from the main pebbly area is relatively straightforward, while water shoes are recommended for the rockier parts.

Warm and shallow waters

Paklena is known as one of the coves with particularly warm waters in the vicinity of Vrboska.

The water along the shore is relatively shallow, and the sandy bottom enhances the feeling of clear and bright water. Due to its sheltered position, swimming is very pleasant when there is no strong wind.

The rocky edges of the cove are also interesting for exploring the underwater world with a mask and snorkel.

Natural shade from the pines

The pine forest comes very close to the shore and is one of the greatest advantages of Paklena.

At the back of the beach and beneath the pines, you can find natural shade, while in other areas, you can lie on the natural stone slabs right by the water.

However, the arrangement of shade changes throughout the day, so one should not expect constant sun protection in the main pebbly area.

How to reach Paklena Beach?

The simplest access is from Soline beach.

It takes approximately five minutes to walk from Soline to Paklena along a path that passes through the shade of the pine trees on the Glavica cape. This walking route is the most pleasant as there is no need to seek a separate car access to the cove itself.

From the centre of Vrboska, you can walk towards Soline and then continue along the coastal path to Paklena.

The path is not demanding, but in some parts, it goes through natural terrain, so comfortable footwear is more practical than very thin summer sandals.

Arriving by car and parking

There is no separate organised public parking directly at Paklena.

The most practical option for arriving by car is the area around Soline beach, where parking is available, and then continue on foot for the last few minutes through the pine forest.

The parking regime and any potential charges at Soline may change during the season, so it is advisable to check the current situation before your arrival.

Do not attempt to drive directly to Paklena as the last part of the access is not a conventional road to the beach.

Is there any infrastructure at Paklena?

Paklena is primarily a natural beach and there is no typical tourist infrastructure such as beach bars, public toilets, showers, or organised sunbed rentals.

The advantage is the proximity to Soline, where there are organised facilities and dining options. Therefore, Paklena can be chosen for a quieter swim, with food, drinks, and other amenities just a short walk away.

For a longer stay, it is advisable to bring water and everything needed for the beach.

Paklena or Soline?

The two beaches are very close to each other but offer different experiences.

Soline is a better choice if you prefer a developed beach, facilities, and easier car access.

Paklena is a better option if you value a natural setting, fewer people, pine forests, and a combination of pebbles, rocks, and turquoise waters.

For this reason, it makes sense to visit both in the same day – they are only a few minutes' walk apart.

Confusion with names on Google Maps

This part of the coast is not consistently marked on Google Maps.

The main location is displayed as Paklina Beach, but the correct local name is Paklena Beach. Nearby, the name Kiki’s Beach appears, which refers to part of the same coast and does not represent a separate significant beach that should be sought out.

The name Rock Beach refers to another location near Vrboska and should not be confused with Paklena.

For arrival, it is therefore easiest to orient yourself towards Soline beach, and then continue a five-minute walk to Paklena.
