Palinica Beach, Vrboska – a small natural cove with pebbles, sandy seabed and turquoise waters

Palinica Beach is located approximately 1.5 kilometres north of the centre of Vrboska, in a quiet part of the coast where a pine forest nearly reaches the sea. This is a small natural beach without tourist infrastructure, primarily intended for visitors seeking clean waters, peace, and simple swimming away from the developed urban beaches.

Palinica is not a large cove with an extensive pebbly shore. It consists of a small pebbly area nestled between natural rocks, while the rest of the coastline comprises stone and rocky slabs. This gives the entire cove a very natural and unobtrusive appearance.

Pebbly shore, but sandy seabed

The most important aspect of Palinica is distinguishing the shore from the seabed.

The beach itself is naturally pebbly, with plenty of rocks and stony sections on the sides. However, the seabed in front of the beach is sandy, making entry into the water more pleasant than one might expect based on the appearance of the shore.

The water is shallow right by the shore and then gradually deepens. Due to the light seabed, the water often takes on a very pronounced turquoise colour.

On the rocky edges of the cove, the terrain is uneven, so water shoes are useful if entering from anywhere other than the main pebbly section.

Clear waters and underwater scenery

Palinica is particularly lovely for swimming in calm, clear waters.

The rocky sides of the cove and the transition between sand, stones, and rocks create an interesting terrain for snorkelling. The cove is also noted as an intriguing spot for diving, with rocks and smaller natural formations in the surrounding underwater landscape worth exploring.

As there are not many facilities or a large number of bathers like at Soline, the water and overall atmosphere tend to feel calmer and more natural.

Shade from the pine forest

One of the advantages of Palinica is the pine forest along the cove.

At the back of the beach and along the edges, it is possible to find natural shade, particularly during parts of the day when the sun is not high above the sea.

However, the main pebbly section of the beach is not completely shaded all day, so for longer stays during the summer, it is advisable to bring your own sun protection.

The rocks along the edges of the cove offer additional sunbathing spots and a bit more privacy.

How to reach Palinica?

The simplest and most reliable access is on foot from Vrboska.

From the centre of the village to Palinica is about 1.5 kilometres. The path leads towards the northern part of the coast and gradually transitions into a quieter landscape with pines and a natural shoreline.

Walking takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, depending on your starting point and pace.

The cove can also be accessed by boat, and due to its calm location, small vessels can anchor off the shore when weather conditions permit.

Arriving by car and parking

Palinica does not have a designated public parking area immediately by the beach.

Although local roads lead to the wider area above the coast, one should not expect a conventional car access to the pebbles or marked parking spaces by the sea.

If arriving by car, a safer option is to leave the vehicle in a legal public parking space in Vrboska or another permitted location before the walking part of the journey and continue on foot.

For guests staying in Vrboska, walking is more practical and pleasant than attempting to drive as close to the cove as possible.

Are there facilities at Palinica?

There are no beach bars, restaurants, showers, toilets, or organised rentals of sun loungers and umbrellas at the beach.

Palinica is a completely natural beach, so everything needed for your stay should be brought along – especially water, food, and sun protection.

The nearest more substantial dining and other tourist facilities can be found in Vrboska.

Who is Palinica suitable for?

Palinica is ideal for visitors seeking a small, natural, and quieter beach without music, loungers, and organised offerings.

It will particularly appeal to those who enjoy a combination of pebbles and rocks, clear water, and snorkelling.

For families wanting showers, toilets, a bar, easy parking, and more space, Soline would be a more practical choice. Palinica is better suited for those who value peace and a natural environment over the comforts of a developed beach.
