FKK Beach Stela in Zavala – A Tranquil Naturist Spot Behind Zaca Harbour

FKK Beach Stela is situated at the eastern end of Zavala, just a few minutes' walk from Zaca harbour. It is tucked away immediately behind a large breakwater, in an area where the houses give way to a more natural, rocky landscape leading towards Gromin Dolac.

This is an official naturist beach, small and unobtrusive, lacking beach bars, sun loungers, and other typical tourist facilities. Access is via a short coastal path, and after a few dozen metres from the harbour, a small pebbly cove with exceptionally clear water opens up.

On Google Maps, it is marked as Beach Stela, while in the local tourist context, this stretch of coastline is simply referred to as FKK Beach Zavala.

A Small FKK Cove Just Behind the Breakwater

The easiest way to find it is from Zaca harbour.

Head to the end of the large breakwater and continue along a short path by the coast heading east. The beach is practically right behind the harbour, but due to the rocks and greenery, it is sufficiently separated from the main bathing area to maintain a quieter character.

From the sea, it is clear that this is a small natural cove between the rocks, with a narrow pebbly section suitable for sunbathing and rocky surfaces along the edges.

Because of its position, it feels much more intimate than the main beaches in Zavala.

What is the Shore Like?

Stela is not a large, typical pebbly beach.

The central part consists of smaller pebbles and gravel, while the edges of the cove are rocky. The stone slabs can be used for sunbathing, but some areas are not completely flat.

The beach is relatively narrow, so there is not much space. During the peak season, it can fill up quickly, although the atmosphere remains calmer than on family beaches in central Zavala.

Entering the Sea

The easiest entry into the sea is from the pebbly section.

The seabed near the shore consists of pebbles and rocks, and the depth increases gradually. Entry is not particularly challenging, but water shoes may be useful due to the stones and occasional sea urchins along the rocky edges.

The water is very clear, especially during the morning and on days without a south wind.

The FKK Character of the Beach

Stela is designated for naturist swimming and is one of the official FKK locations in the Jelsa municipality.

This is not merely a secluded corner of a regular city beach where naturists occasionally swim. Its location behind the harbour, natural separation from the main settlement, and long-standing FKK tradition make it a clearly identifiable naturist bathing spot.

Therefore, it is best to respect the character of the place and the privacy of other bathers, especially when taking photographs.

Is There Natural Shade?

Pines and other Mediterranean vegetation grow around the cove, so some natural shade can be found along the back and edge of the beach, particularly depending on the time of day.

However, most of the pebbly shore and rocky surfaces are exposed to the sun.

If you plan to stay for several hours, it is advisable to bring sun protection and plenty of water.

No Facilities on the Beach

There are no showers, changing cabins, sun loungers, or food and drink facilities at Stela.

This is a natural beach, and its simplicity is a significant part of its appeal.

The nearest food and drink options are located around Zaca, which can be reached in a few minutes by retracing the coastal path. Thus, for a short visit, you do not need to carry much, but for a few hours at the beach, it is essential to have water.

Great for Snorkelling

The rocky edges of the cove are more interesting than the pebbly centre for underwater exploration.

Below the surface, larger rocks, stones, and pebbles alternate, and due to the high clarity of the water, visibility is very good.

The most pleasant swimming is along the edges of the cove when the sea is completely calm. Caution should be exercised regarding passing boats when heading towards the open sea.

View Towards Šćedro

As with other beaches in Zavala, the shore offers a view towards Šćedro and the Šćedro Channel.

The cove is small, but the sea in front of it opens up quickly to the south, so there is no feeling of enclosure.

In calm conditions, the entire area is very tranquil, while during stronger south winds, waves can reach the beach, making swimming considerably less pleasant.

How to Get There?

If you are already in Zavala, the simplest route is to head towards Zaca harbour.

From the harbour, continue to the eastern end of the large breakwater, where a short and simple coastal path to the FKK beach begins.

The beach itself is not accessible by car, and the last short section must be traversed on foot.

There is no long descent or challenging hiking access.

Parking

It is best to leave your car in the parking areas around Zaca and walk the last part across the harbour and along the path behind the breakwater.

In July and August, parking spaces along the coastal part of Zavala fill up quickly, so for a day visit by car, it is advisable to arrive early.

If you are staying in Zavala, it is much more pleasant to walk to the beach.

When is the Best Time to Visit?

The morning is the best part of the day if you want calm waters and more space on the beach.

Since the cove is small, a few additional bathers can make a significant difference in the feeling of crowding.

June and September are particularly pleasant as the beach is quieter, and the water remains suitable for swimming.

Who is Stela Best Suited For?

Stela is a good choice for naturists seeking a small, natural, and easily accessible FKK beach without a large number of facilities and without the need for a long walk.

This is not a place for guests looking for sun loungers, showers, a beach bar, or a large pebbly beach.

Its advantages are precisely the opposite: a hidden location behind the harbour, a natural shoreline, clean water, and a relaxed FKK character just a few minutes from Zaca.
