Bile Stine Beach in Komiža

Bile Stine Beach is located on the north-western side of the Komiža bay, behind Gusarica and Drugo Ploča beaches. The name might suggest a larger, developed beach, but Bile Stine is actually a serene stretch of natural rocky coastline with a few smaller pebbly spots suitable for entering the water and relaxing by the shore.

This beach is a choice for those looking to escape the crowds of the town beaches while remaining relatively close to the centre of Komiža. From the shore, there are lovely views of the town, the harbour, and the houses that slope down towards the sea, providing a different perspective of the entire Komiža bay.

How to Reach Bile Stine Beach

From the centre of Komiža, walk towards the northern side of the bay, heading in the direction of Gusarica. After passing Gusarica beach, continue towards Drugo Ploča bathing area, with the final part leading along a narrow natural path by the coast. It takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to walk from the harbour in the centre of Komiža, depending on your starting point and pace.

The final approach is not a paved walkway. The path can be narrow, rocky, and uneven in places, so sturdy sandals or sports shoes are a better choice than standard flip-flops. In some areas, it is possible to wade through shallow water at low tide, but this should not be relied upon as the rocks can be wet and slippery.

It is not possible to drive directly to the beach, and there is no parking near Bile Stine. Vehicles should be left in permitted areas in Komiža or at one of the public car parks, such as Rogač or Norpine, with the remainder of the journey completed on foot. For guests staying in Komiža, a car is not necessary to reach this beach.

Rocky Coastline and Small Pebbly Areas

The majority of the coastline consists of light-coloured rocks and stone slabs, interspersed with smaller pockets of pebbles. There is limited space for comfortable lounging, making Bile Stine less suitable for large groups or visitors seeking a wide beach for a full day’s stay.

Entry into the water is easiest at the pebbly sections, while access from the rocks requires more caution. The seabed near the shore can be uneven and slippery, so water shoes may be beneficial. The underwater landscape alternates between rocky bottoms and seagrass meadows, making this an interesting spot for snorkelling and observing marine life.

There is no significant or reliable natural shade on the beach itself. Shade can be found in some overgrown areas along the coast, depending on the time of day, but for extended stays, sun protection should be brought along.

Quieter Swimming Without Tourist Facilities

There are no tourist facilities at this location. There are no bars, showers, toilets, sunbed rentals, or options to purchase water and food. All necessities should be brought from Komiža, and any waste should be taken away after your visit.

The nearest dining establishments and additional amenities are located in the Gusarica area and further towards the town centre. The absence of facilities and the somewhat challenging final approach are reasons why Bile Stine typically has fewer visitors than the more accessible beaches in Komiža.

This beach is most suitable for couples, solo visitors, and confident swimmers seeking a peaceful bathing spot in a natural setting. It is not the most practical choice for small children due to the narrow path, limited space, rocky coastline, and lack of facilities. It is also unsuitable for pushchairs, wheelchair users, or those with mobility difficulties on uneven terrain.

Best Time to Visit

During the summer, it is best to arrive in the morning when it is not too hot, making the walk to the beach more pleasant. Later in the afternoon, the coastline is quieter, and the view towards Komiža is particularly striking, but ensure there is enough daylight left for the return along the narrow path.

When the sea is choppy, accessing the pebbly areas and entering from the rocks can be uncomfortable, so Bile Stine is best visited in calm weather. The location is accessible year-round, but swimming and longer stays are most enjoyable when planned from late spring to early autumn.

Bile Stine is not a typical Komiža beach with developed amenities. Its value lies in the small pebbly spots, natural rocks, intriguing underwater scenery, and views towards Komiža, being close enough to the town yet removed from its busiest summer crowds.
