Konoba Zoglov Zaglav Vis – Lunch by the Sandy Beach
Konoba Zoglov is just a few steps from the sandy beach of Zaglav, in a small cove accessible on foot from Milna. It is a simple island tavern that fits perfectly into a day spent at the beach – sitting in the shade, taking a break from the sun, enjoying some fish or grilled dishes, and then returning to the sea after lunch.
There is no town quay, no cars in front of the terrace, and no large tourist complex. Surrounding the tavern are the sea, a few houses, vineyards on the slopes, and one of the most well-known sandy beaches on Vis. This location gives Zoglov more character than one might conclude from the menu alone.
Simple Dalmatian Food by the Beach
The offerings are in line with the setting – fish, squid, seafood, and grilled meat, without the need for complication.
If you want fish, it’s best to ask what is available that day. At such a place, fresh fish or mackerel from the grill with a simple side makes more sense than seeking a large variety of options.
To start, you might find classic Dalmatian items like prosciutto, cheese, fish pâté, and marinated olives, while common main course choices include squid, fish, or mixed grilled meat.
Zoglov is not a restaurant you visit for modern food presentation. It is more of a traditional tavern by the beach, where lunch naturally extends as there is no rush to return to the car or town.
If they have a homemade cake that day, it’s worth asking what has been made. Among the desserts, a carob cake often appears, which fits well with the story of Vis.
Best Suited for Lunch
I would prefer to choose lunch over a late dinner at Zoglov.
The beach at Zaglav faces east and is exposed to the sun for most of the day. After a few hours of swimming, the terrace of the tavern is a good place for a break in the shade.
You can sit down for lunch, linger longer with a drink, and then return to the beach as the sun begins to wane.
The tavern generally operates on a daytime schedule during the season and closes earlier than restaurants in the town of Vis, so it is not advisable to plan it as a venue for a very late dinner.
A Few Steps from the Sand
One of Zoglov's greatest advantages is that it is located just above the beach of Zaglav.
There’s no need to change clothes, return to Milna, or arrange transport. It takes just moments to reach the table from the sea, making the tavern particularly convenient for families spending the whole day at Zaglav.
The beach has fine sand and a large shallow area, but very little natural shade for most of the day. Therefore, the terrace at Zoglov is a welcome respite from the sun in the height of summer.
How to Get to Konoba Zoglov?
You cannot reach the tavern by car.
The simplest access is via Milna. You leave your car in Milna and then walk along the coastal path to Zaglav for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
The path is not demanding and has no significant climbs, but it is quite exposed to the sun during the day. If you are going for lunch in mid-July or August, it’s advisable to bring water and something for your head, especially with children.
There is also a walking route to Zaglav from the direction of Bargujac, but for most visitors arriving by car, Milna is the simpler starting point.
Where to Park?
Zoglov does not have its own parking near the restaurant as there is no road leading to the beach and the establishment.
Parking is available in Milna, in the available spaces within the settlement, and the rest of the journey is on foot.
This should be taken into account if you are coming solely for the restaurant. Zoglov is not a place you drive to five minutes before a reservation.
On the other hand, the absence of a road is one of the things that keeps Zaglav from feeling like a typical developed tourist beach.
The best combination is to leave the car in Milna, walk to Zaglav, spend part of the day on the beach, and have lunch at the tavern before returning.
Arriving by Boat
You can also reach Zaglav by sea, making Zoglov appealing to guests who are exploring the southeastern coast of Vis by boat.
The cove has a sandy bottom, and during calm summer weather, smaller vessels often anchor in front of the beach. However, do not expect a typical organised restaurant mooring right in front of the tavern.
If arriving by boat, assess the anchorage and conditions in the cove based on the weather and other vessels, and you can reach the shore by tender or swim when conditions are safe.
Reservations in the Peak Season
Zaglav is a very popular beach during July and August, and Zoglov is the only proper dining establishment right next to it.
Therefore, during the peak season, it makes sense to reserve a table if you know in advance when you will be dining, especially for larger groups.
The current published opening hours are approximately from noon to 8 PM, but as this is a seasonal beach tavern, it is always worth checking the hours outside the main summer period before setting off.
According to the latest available information, it is also advisable to bring cash, rather than relying solely on card payments.
A Tavern that Works Best with Zaglav
Zoglov should not be viewed separately from the beach on which it is located.
If you are looking for a restaurant to drive across the entire island for a formal dinner, Vis has other options. Zoglov is best when you are already spending the day at Zaglav.
Walking from Milna, spending a few hours in the sand and sea, going to the shade for fish or squid, and returning to the beach after lunch – this is how this tavern functions best.
And precisely for this reason, its simplicity is fitting. A sandy cove without cars, a few tables in the shade, and traditional Dalmatian food just steps from the sea is quite enough reason to stop by.
