Tepluš Beach Rukavac Vis – a tranquil pebble beach near Srebrna
Tepluš Beach is located on the southern coast of the island of Vis, on the edge of the village of Rukavac, not far from the well-known Srebrna. This natural pebble beach is situated in a small cove, surrounded by stone slabs and Mediterranean vegetation, and is particularly popular with families with children. Unlike Srebrna, which attracts a large number of day visitors from across the island, Tepluš is more closely associated with Rukavac itself and becomes the main beach for many who stay in the area during their holiday.
The beach faces the open sea and the islet of Ravnik. The main feature is the pebble shore, alongside which large stone slabs extend, providing sunbathing spots and access to the water. The sea is very clear, and the entry from the pebble area is relatively gentle, making Tepluš more suitable for small children compared to many rocky beaches on Vis. Local guides also mention areas with finer pebbles and sand right by the water.
How to reach Tepluš Beach?
Tepluš can be accessed through Rukavac. The approach diverges from the road leading to Srebrna, after which a gravel path continues towards the beach. The official Tourist Board of Vis states that the path runs past a hospitality establishment with a sea view, leading to a spacious car park very close to the beach.
This makes Tepluš considerably easier to reach than many hidden coves on Vis. There is no long descent down a steep path or several kilometres of challenging gravel road as is the case with Pritišćina or some more remote beaches.
From the centre of Rukavac to Tepluš is approximately 400 metres, so it is very easy to walk if staying in the village.
Parking at the beach
One of the advantages of Tepluš is the large parking area very close to the beach. It is just a short walk from the car park to the shore, making the beach practical for those arriving with children, bags, and equipment for the day.
In July and August, it is advisable to arrive a bit earlier. Rukavac can be quite busy during this time, and Tepluš, along with Srebrna, is one of the main bathing spots in this part of the island.
Is there shade at Tepluš?
There is some natural shade, but not across the entire beach. A small pine tree above the shore provides shade for part of the day, while the main pebble area is mostly exposed to the sun. The official Tourist Board of Vis also notes an interesting feature: the large stone slabs in the northern part of the cove fall into shadow after around 5 PM.
If planning to stay all day in the height of summer, bringing your own sun umbrella is still a good idea, especially if you cannot secure a spot under the pines.
Facilities at the beach
Tepluš offers more facilities than many natural beaches on Vis. During the tourist season, there is a restaurant and beach bar by the beach, and sun loungers, umbrellas, as well as the rental of SUP boards and kayaks are available. The current offerings may vary between seasons, so it is advisable to check what is available before your visit.
This is an important distinction compared to nearby Srebrna. At Tepluš, it is possible to spend a large part of the day without needing to return to accommodation for drinks or meals, while the beach has not been transformed into a large, commercialised tourist bathing area.
Is Tepluš suitable for children?
Yes, Tepluš is one of the more practical beaches in Rukavac for families with children. The pebble shore allows for easier access to the water, the cove is sufficiently open, and the car park is very close.
Local guides particularly highlight the shallow entry and finer pebbles as reasons why families often choose this beach. The bathing area is separated from boat traffic, which is also beneficial during the peak season.
The stone slabs along the shore are interesting for older children for entering the water and jumping, but caution is advised when they are wet.
Big and Moli Tepluš
The name Tepluš actually appears locally in two forms. The main beach discussed here is known as Big Tepluš, or simply Tepluš.
Immediately to the east, towards Rukavac, lies Moli Tepluš – a much smaller pebble beach, approximately twenty metres long. Moli Tepluš does not have hospitality facilities and is usually quieter than the main beach.
If you already have it or can add it as a separate location on Holiday Link, Moli Tepluš makes sense to cover in a separate shorter article, just as we have separated Big and Small Pritišćina.
Tepluš or Srebrna?
The two beaches are very close to each other but are not entirely the same.
Srebrna is larger and more well-known, characterised by its large silvery pebbles and significantly more pine forest behind the beach. Tepluš is a smaller cove, with a finer pebble area, easier access to the water, and hospitality facilities right by the beach.
For families with small children, Tepluš may be more practical, while Srebrna is more attractive if seeking a large natural beach and more space in deep shade.
As they are only a few minutes apart, if staying in Rukavac, there is no reason to limit yourself to just one.
Tepluš Beach or Rukavac Beach?
Tepluš is sometimes informally referred to in tourist descriptions as Rukavac Beach or one of the beaches of Rukavac, but its name is Tepluš.
This is important to distinguish from the small pebble beach in the centre of the village, along the promenade and local moorings, which appears under the name New Rukavac. Therefore, for navigation and searching, it is much more precise to use the name Tepluš Beach – Rukavac, rather than just "Rukavac Beach".
Tepluš is a good choice if you are looking for a beach that retains a natural appearance but does not require a complicated approach and the sacrifice of all facilities. Clear water, a pebble shore, parking almost by the beach, and the availability of food and drink make it one of the most practical beaches for spending time in Rukavac.
