BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Dugi Rat is a municipality in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia, and consists of three settlements: Duće, Dugi Rat, and Jesenice. It is located on the Split-Dubrovnik state road (D8), 15 km southeast of Split and 5 km west of Omiš. According to the last census, it has a population of 7,092. Dugi Rat can be reached via Split, which can be reached by plane (Resnik airport), bus, train, or boat. Buses run from Split to Dugi Rat every 30 minutes.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

The age of the settlements of Jesenice and Duće, which are located at an altitude of 200 to 250 m, at the foot of Mount Perun, is evidenced by archaeological findings in the caves of Turja peć and Ponistrice, which testify to the presence of life in the area since the Stone Age. Permanent settlement is confirmed by hillforts and mounds from the late Bronze and Iron Ages. In addition to the above-mentioned sites, you can also visit the monuments of Greeting to the Sun and the Cross for the Fallen Defenders. There are also the churches of St. Stephen, St. Peter, St. Anthony and St. Roch.

BEACHES

Beaches in and near the town are Bajnice, Dugi Rat, Glavica, Krilo Jesenice and Sumpetar.

OTHER CONTENT

The Dugorat Summer is a cultural and entertainment event in August that organizes numerous concerts, plays, exhibitions, poetry evenings, a children's festival, an entertainment and competition program, the lighting of St. John's torches, etc. Apart from the Bracera tavern and the Riva pizzeria, there are no restaurants in the town itself, only in neighboring Duće, Krilo Jesenice or Sumpetar, and in the summer the Rivica beach bar is also open.

SPORT

Numerous activities during and outside the season are offered to locals and visitors, such as climbing, rafting on the Cetina, sea activities, paragliding-zip line, kayaking, canyoning. Events such as the Dalmatia Ultra trail gather an increasing number of participants, connecting 5 nearby mountains.

WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

Three local agencies organize excursions to the neighboring cities of Split, Trogir, Omiš, Makarska; the national parks of Krka and Plitvice Lakes, the Biokovo Nature Park, the Cetina Canon, and the sanctuaries of Vepric and Međugorje.
