BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Stobreč is a settlement located east of Split, situated on a peninsula, on the site of the ancient settlement of Eptiona, not far from the mouth of the Žrnovnica River into the Adriatic Sea. Today, it is generally a suburb of that city, from which it is 7 kilometers away, and has a population of nearly 6,000. Today, Stobreč's economic base is tourism and hospitality.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Greek colonizers founded Epetion, today's Stobreč, on the peninsula in the 3rd century BC. At the beginning of the 20th century, Italian companies financed the Stobreč quarries (tupina quarries), which were sources of marl (tupina), the exploitation of which lasted until the middle of the 20th century. During this period, the area of today's camp was created, by filling the sea in the Žrnovnica delta. Tupina is exported to Italy, but domestic factories also use it as a raw material in cement production. After World War II, the space was converted into today's camp, and the first private room renters in Stobreč were their own residents.
BEACHES
Today's Sobreč is known for its camping. There are sandy and pebble beaches along the mouth, as well as in the town itself. These are the beaches Stobreč Kamp east and west and Porat beach. To the west there is also a wild naturist beach.
