BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Sobra is a town on the northern side of the island of Mljet. It belongs to the southernmost county in Croatia, Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Sobra has a ferry port, Zaglavac, only 3 km away. The state road connecting Sobra with the rest of the island also passes through the town, and the nearest airport is in Dubrovnik.


HISTORY

Sobra has been permanently inhabited since the mid-19th century, and was founded as a port in nearby Babino Polje. Today, Sobra is a tourist resort that is the maritime and traffic center of the island of Mljet, and therefore the economy is based on tourism and traffic, and the town also has its own water supply and water pumping station.


BEACHES

The best place for swimming in Sobra is on the western side of the bay, the sea is crystal clear, and the coast is rocky. In Saplunara, just a few minutes away, there are beautiful sandy beaches that are definitely worth visiting, they are some of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Mljet.

You can enjoy Mediterranean, European and other top-quality food specialties by visiting the Riva tavern-restaurant, the Mungos cafe bar-restaurant or the Lanterna tavern.


SPORT

Water activities are a way to recreate, but there are also other ways: walking, cycling, and for true lovers of hiking and being in nature, there is the Mljet hiking circuit, which is definitely worth exploring.

The island of Mljet truly offers a wealth of interesting and beautiful locations, including the Mljet National Park and Odysseus' Cave. There are organized excursions from the island of Mljet, both by sea and by land, for example the island of Korčula and the city of Dubrovnik are ideal locations to visit.
