BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Pakoštane is a small Dalmatian town in Zadar County. Located in the center of the Adriatic coast, between the sea and the Vrana Lake Nature Park. There are 5 islands in the Pakoštane waters. The largest is Veliki Školj. According to the last census, it has 4,123 inhabitants who mainly live from tourism and agriculture. It is located on the state road D8 - Adriatic Highway and not far from Benkovac, where there is an exit to the A1 motorway. The nearest airport is in Zadar, which is 35 kilometers away.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Historical sources mention the town in the early 15th century. In Roman times, the port of the Roman city of Asseriae (Podgrađe) was located on the site of today's settlement. Its remains and the villas of wealthy patricians are still visible today, and in the sea, the remains of a Roman breakwater. The church of St. Justin from the 17th century is located on the islet of the same name in front of the town. The current parish church of the Ascension of the Lord was built in the 20th century and is located in the center of the town on the site of the old parish church and is a symbol of Pakoštane. The Pakoštane majorettes and a male klapa perform in the town.
BEACHES
Near the center is Punta Beach. It has a pebble and concrete part and you can rent various facilities. Pilatusa Beach is an unusual combination of sand, pebble, stone and pine shade in one place. Bužakovina Beach is located within the Pine Beach tourist resort and is ideal for families with small children. There are also pebble beaches Janice 1 and 2 and the beautiful Dolaška Draga Bay.

You can taste local and Mediterranean specialties in the restaurants Tri ferala, Lanterna, Sicilia, Marin, Adriatic and many others. The charming Dalmatian taverns Obala, Đoker, Grgo and Pakoštanac will also delight you with local delicacies and quality olive oil and local wine. As for entertainment and leisure, the program is extremely rich. A kind of introduction to the season is the small catamaran regatta held at the end of April, followed by numerous bicycle races, a May Day picnic, various ethno and gastronomic programs, klapa concerts, dancing under the stars, various sports and entertainment events.

In addition to the above sports programs, you can try sailing, kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, beach volleyball, football, sport fishing, diving, hiking and tracking.

The location near 4 national parks and three nature parks provides a variety of opportunities for excursions in nature. Nearby are Šibenik, Zadar, Biograd, Trogir and Split with a very rich cultural and entertainment offer, and there is also the possibility of renting a boat so you can enjoy this part of the Adriatic.
