In 1945, the National Museum was established, consisting of the Ethnographic and Natural History Department. The collections of the Ethnographic Department consisted of two hundred different objects (textiles, jewelry, weapons and wooden objects), that is, the collection of Dušan Jurković, a lawyer, who was also the first director of the National Museum. The museum was housed in a private villa in the Brodarica area. Today, the ethnological department is not only a place for exploring the rural traditional culture of northern Dalmatia, but also a place for dialogue between the population of this area and their own cultural heritage and the search for their own cultural identity in contemporary cultural and civilizational circumstances.
