Banje Beach in Rogač – Pebbly Beach Opposite the Ferry Port

Banje Beach is situated in Rogač, on the northern side of the island of Šolta, along the western shore of Rogač Bay. It lies almost directly opposite the ferry terminal, and access requires travelling around the inner part of the bay via road. The beach is approximately one kilometre from the ferry port, which is about a 15-minute walk.

Access to the beach can be made by car, scooter, bicycle, or on foot. The route to the water is via a tarmacked local road through the western part of Rogač, between houses and apartments. The final stretch of road runs right by the sea, and in some places, the road is narrow, so caution is advised during the summer months. The access road is not unpaved, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle is not necessary to reach it.

Parking is available in a limited number of spaces along the road and in small lay-bys near the beach. Banje does not have a large, organised public car park, and during July and August, the spaces along the coast fill up quickly. It is advisable to arrive early in the morning or to park a little further away in a location that does not obstruct other vehicles or access to private homes. It is also quite convenient to walk from the centre of Rogač.

Banje is a small pebbly beach located in a sheltered part of the bay. The central part of the shoreline is covered in smooth pebbles, while rocky and concreted areas are found along the edges, which are also used for sunbathing and entering the water. The sea in the shallows is generally calm, and the entry is gradual over much of the beach, making it suitable for families with children. In some areas, there are larger stones on the seabed, so water shoes may be beneficial.

Due to its location deep within the bay, the sea is usually calmer than on the open beaches of Šolta. The beach is far enough from the ferry dock that swimming is not directly affected by ferry traffic, although boats, catamarans, and ferries do pass through the wider part of the bay. Swimmers venturing away from the shore should therefore be mindful of maritime traffic and vessels at anchor or moored.

There is limited natural shade on the beach. Trees and Mediterranean vegetation are mainly found along the edges and behind the shore, while the majority of the pebbly area is exposed to the sun throughout the day. For a longer stay, it is advisable to bring your own sunshade, especially during the hottest part of the day and when visiting with children.

The facilities available at the beach may vary depending on the season. One should not expect consistently available sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, changing cabins, or public toilets. In some seasons, there have been children's facilities and equipment for water activities, but these are not permanent, and their availability is not guaranteed.

In the immediate vicinity, there are holiday homes and apartments, while a wider selection of dining establishments, shops, and other services can be found closer to the ferry port and the central part of Rogač. Therefore, for a longer stay, it is advisable to bring water, food, and all necessary items for sun protection.

Banje Beach is most suitable for bathers seeking a quieter, sheltered stretch of coastline with a gradual entry into the water and tarmacked access. Advantages include proximity to Rogač, a pebbly shore, and calmer waters, while the main limitations are the lack of natural shade, limited space, and restricted parking options.
