BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Slatine is a small fishing village located on the northern side of the island of Čiovo, in the Split-Dalmatia County. It is administratively part of the city of Split. It has a population of 1,100. It is located on the coast of the Kaštela Bay, opposite Split and Marjan. It is 8 km from Trogir and 35 km from Split. In summer, Split and Slatine are connected by a boat line, a 30-minute drive from the Split waterfront.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
In the old part of Slatina is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and just 2 km south, in the rocks, is the sanctuary of Our Lady of Prizdinice, which was built in the 16th century by the Glagolitic monks of Poljica. Hermits lived there during the Middle Ages, and it is still their gathering place today. The elementary school in Slatina was built in 1913. The main industries are agriculture and fishing. Tourism is also developed.
BEACHES
Along the entire town, the coast is indented with many bays, cliffs, pebble and stone beaches that stretch to the cape of the island. Pine forests above these small bays create natural shade and are ideal for families with small children. The most famous and largest is Kava beach, which also has a catering offer.
OTHER CONTENT
You can find local fish and meat specialties in the restaurants Neverin, Mali Porat, Lanterna and the pizzeria Dida. However, you will have to experience the nightlife in nearby Trogir or Split.
SPORT
There are open fields for small football and basketball in the village. There are also opportunities for diving and various marine joys, walks around the island.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
For those planning day trips, there are organized trips to the neighboring islands of Šolta, Hvar and Brač. You can walk to the beautiful Trogir, and there are regular bus lines to Split several times a day or a boat directly to the waterfront in the summer season.
