BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Karlobag is a town in Lika-Senj County and the seat of the municipality of the same name. Its riviera is 42 kilometers long, located on the Rijeka-Dubrovnik road, i.e. on the Adriatic Highway and on the road leading to Gospić, via Plitvice to Zagreb. According to the latest census, the municipality has 917 inhabitants distributed in 14 settlements, the largest of which is Karlobag, with 468 inhabitants. The nearest airport is in Zadar, 94 km away.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

In the area of today's Karlobag, there was a Roman settlement called Vegium until the 5th century, when the population fled to Pag before the invasion of the Goths. The name of the town was changed to Bag, and it was first mentioned under its current name in 1580. Today, Karlobag and the surrounding areas are developing as a tourist center with untouched nature and clean sea. Among the religious buildings there is a Capuchin monastery, the church of Our Lady of Sorrows and the parish church of St. Joseph from the 18th century. Above Karlobag are the ruined fortresses of Fortica from the Middle Ages.

BEACHES

There are numerous beaches along the coast, the most famous being Tatinja. Hotels along the coast have their own private beaches.

The gastronomic offer of Lika-Senj County is unique in every way. This is an agricultural and livestock-raising area and is characterized by high-quality lamb and cheese, as well as organically grown food and pleasant hosts. Restaurants that offer this are Baška bura, Jure, Četiri sestre, Šterna, Florida and many others. Taverns that we recommend are Amfora and Ribar. During the summer, visit numerous events as part of the Karlobaški Ljeto, and if you are artistically gifted, an Art Colony is also organized.

SPORT

Fans of active holidays can go diving, fishing, sailing, cycling, hiking the cliffs of Velebit or walking along marked educational trails. The more adventurous can try their hand at paragliding.

WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

The possibilities for one-day trips in nature are endless. Nearby is Velebit, the national parks Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes, Krka, as well as the nature parks Vrana Lake and Telaščica. You can go to the canyon of the Zrmanja River or take a panoramic drive through the Karlovac archipelago.
