Smrčeva Luka on Brač | A Hidden Cove Between Murvice and Vela Farska

Smrčeva Luka is located on the southern side of Brač, nestled between Murvice and the cove of Vela Farska, approximately ten kilometres west of Bol. The cove is quite remote from the main tourist areas and is surrounded by vineyards, dry stone walls, pine trees, and steep rocky slopes, giving the entire area a very isolated and peaceful atmosphere.

Unlike the larger and more well-known beaches around Bol, Smrčeva Luka does not feature a wide open coastline but rather a combination of smaller pebbly beaches, rocky terraces, and natural stone formations along the shore. The water is exceptionally clear and deep just a few metres from the coast, exhibiting the dark blue hue characteristic of the southern side of Brač. In some rocky areas, people often enter the water directly from the rocks.

Access to the cove has improved significantly over the years, as an asphalt road through Vidova Gora now leads most of the way to the southern coast. The final stretch to Smrčeva Luka is still unpaved, but it is a relatively short section. The road is narrow in places, so it is advisable to drive slowly during the summer, particularly when passing other vehicles.

There is no official parking, but several lay-bys along the unpaved road above the cove provide spaces for cars. It takes a few minutes to walk from the parking area to the sea. Due to limited space, the number of vehicles can become quite large early in the day during July and August.

A notable feature of Smrčeva Luka is the absence of typical tourist infrastructure and large crowds, yet there are a few amenities nearby. Along the shore, you will find the restaurants Ciccio and Begovi dvori, where visitors can enjoy lunch or a drink without needing to return to Bol.

There is more natural shade here than at some other southern beaches on Brač, as pine trees line the coast and provide shade along the edges of the cove in the afternoon. When the maestral wind blows, the cove remains slightly cooler than the more exposed beaches towards Bol, which many people highlight as an advantage of this part of the coast.

Smrčeva Luka is popular among those seeking a quieter part of Brač, free from beach bars, loud music, and extensive tourist facilities. Many sailors visit the cove during the day, as the water is very clear and well-sheltered for short stops.

The entire area around the cove appears quite wild and natural — there are no large buildings or apartment complexes, just a few stone houses, vineyards, and old paths that traverse the southern side of the island. This contributes to Smrčeva Luka's distinctly different impression compared to the more developed beaches on the northern side of Brač.
