Milna Beach, Vrboska – a small tranquil cove with natural shade and clear waters

Milna Beach is situated between Vrboska and Jelsa, approximately 1.5 kilometres from the centre of Vrboska.

This is not a large, developed beach nor a destination for extensive facilities. Milna is a small natural cove ideal for those seeking a quieter swimming experience, clear water, and ample shade beneath the pines. Due to the limited space along the shore, it is best visited earlier in the day or outside of the peak summer crowds.

A small natural shoreline

Milna does not feature a wide pebble beach like Soline.

The shoreline is small and natural, comprising a mix of rocks, stones, and a few more accessible spots for entering the water. Some bathers settle right by the water's edge, while others find shade under the pines above the shore.

Because of its small size, Milna retains a more intimate character and resembles a hidden cove rather than a typical tourist beach.

The sea and seabed

The water in Milna is very clear, and in the central part of the cove, the seabed becomes lighter and finer compared to the rocky edges.

There are stones and rocks along the shore and on the sides, while softer and lighter sections of the seabed appear towards the middle of the cove. As a result, the water takes on beautiful green-blue and turquoise hues on sunny days.

The most pleasant entry into the water is through the more accessible central area. At the edges of the cove, water shoes are advisable due to the stones and uneven rocks.

Ample natural shade

One of the main advantages of Milna is the shade.

Pines grow right above the shore, providing considerable natural protection from the sun, which is particularly pleasant during the hottest hours in July and August.

If you wish to be right by the water, part of the shore remains exposed to the sun, but just a few metres away, it is easy to find a spot among the pines.

This makes Milna potentially more comfortable for longer stays compared to many completely open rocky bathing spots around Vrboska.

A quieter alternative to Soline

Milna is a good choice if Soline feels too developed or crowded for your liking.

There is no water park, large car park, beach bar, or organised sun loungers here. Visitors come primarily for the sea and tranquillity.

As a result, the atmosphere remains much more natural, especially in the morning and evening.

How to reach Milna Beach?

From the centre of Vrboska to Milna is approximately 1.5 kilometres.

By car, you take the road towards Jelsa and then descend from the main road towards the coast. The final access is short and straightforward for pedestrians.

Milna can also be reached on foot from Vrboska, but expect a walk of about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on your starting point and pace.

Cycling is also a practical option.

Parking

Milna does not have a large, organised public car park.

There is limited space for vehicles near the beach access, but the number of spots is not substantial. During the peak season, it can be challenging to find a free space right by the entrance.

If you are driving, it is important to leave enough room for other vehicles to pass and not to use private driveways of nearby houses for parking.

No tourist infrastructure

There are no beach bars, restaurants, showers, public toilets, or organised rentals of sun loungers and umbrellas at the beach.

For a longer stay, it is advisable to bring water, food, and everything you need for a day by the sea.

A wider selection of shops, cafés, and restaurants can be found in Vrboska and Jelsa.

Is Milna suitable for children?

Milna can be pleasant for families who do not require extensive infrastructure.

The water in the central part of the cove is accessible for swimming, and the natural shade is a significant advantage. However, the shoreline is not wide or completely flat, so for very young children, there are more practical beaches.

If easy pebble entry, toilets, restaurants, and additional facilities are important to you, Soline would be a better choice. If you prefer a smaller and quieter cove, Milna has more charm.

Who is Milna best suited for?

Milna is best suited for guests who enjoy small natural bathing spots without many facilities.

It is close enough to Vrboska to reach easily by car, bike, or on foot, yet sufficiently secluded to provide a quieter atmosphere than the main town beaches.

Clear water, pine shade, and a small cove are the main reasons to stop here.
