BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Malinska is a tourist resort on the northwestern coast of the island of Krk. It has a little less than 1,000 inhabitants and, along with about twenty other surrounding villages, belongs to the Dubašnica area. Malinska can be reached by car after crossing the Krk Bridge. Malinska is about 12 kilometers from the bridge. Arriving by plane is also a very good option, since Rijeka Airport is about 10 kilometers from Malinska. The first train station is in Rijeka (40 kilometers away) and you can then continue your journey to Malinska from the Rijeka bus station. Buses run almost every hour and stop at the Malinska station, and there is no need to change to one of the local Krk buses. From Rijeka, you can also take a catamaran to Valbiska and continue your journey to Malinska, which is 13 kilometers from the pier. The seaport in Malinska is still open to local ship traffic.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Although Malinska was inhabited in previous centuries, its history begins in the 15th century when the mill was built, after which it was named. During the Middle Ages and the rule of the Frankopan family and later the Venetian Republic and Austria, Malinska experienced its development. Cultural landmarks that can be visited are mainly part of sacral art and architecture. These include the monastery of St. Mary Magdalene in Porat, the cemetery of St. Apollinaris in Dubašnica, the monumental cross on Fumak Hill, the cross in the Bunićevo area, the chapel of St. John de Matha and the church of St. Peter on Vehr. The participation of Malinska, i.e. the Dubašnica area, in the creation of Glagolitic culture on the island of Krk is best visible in the complex from 1480, which consists of the aforementioned monastery of St. Mary Magdalene, next to which is a museum with interesting exhibits and a Glagolitic lapidary. In a similar context, it is necessary to mention the church-gallery complex of St. Nicholas in the center of Malinska, which can be visited and viewed.
BEACHES
The most famous beach in Malinska is Rupa, which has had the Blue Flag for years as a sign of high-quality sea and clean environment. It is also adapted for people with disabilities. Other beaches with rich amenities located next to beautiful nature are Riu beach, Haludovo (popular with children), Draga, Vrtača, Vantačić, Valica and Rova.
OTHER CONTENT
The rich gastronomic offer of the region is based on the coastal fishing tradition, and in the restaurants Bonaca, Bukarica, Mulino, Dub, Lanterna, Leut or Nostromo you can try various similar specialties and indigenous foods. There are also a large number of bistros, taverns and pizzerias in Malinska. The following coffee bars should be mentioned: Chevrolet, Jaz, Kapo, Marin, Smokva, Vala and Beleca. Club Boa and Maita'i are widely known for their crazy night parties. Events that attract a large number of tourists during the summer season are traditional performances by klapa and folklore groups, classical music concerts in the atrium of the monastery and church, and very frequent fishermen's festivals.
SPORT
Water sports are very popular in Malinska, and you can go parasailing, jet skiing and pedal boats. Experienced divers will explore the underwater world, while beginners can attend an organized diving school. Those who want to see Malinska and the entire Dubašnica from the sea can rent boats. A sports hall has been opened in Malinska, offering various sports and a rental field. Cycling enthusiasts can use the 50-kilometer-long promenade as a trail, and sports events include the Đir po Dubašnica cycling race, the Dubašnica CUP cruiser regatta, and many other competitions.
WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
Boat trips are the most popular in Malinska. A very rich offer of similar trips offers a visit to the island of Cres, panoramic rides to Glavotok or the Krk Bridge, rides in larger boats or catamarans whose transparent bottoms allow you to see the flora and fauna of the Krk underwater world. Beautiful promenades can also be used for going out into nature, and longer walks can also reach nearby Njivice, Dobrinje and the town of Krk.

Most hotels in Malinska offer high-class accommodation units up to four stars. Well-known hotels are Adria, Malin, Pinia, Blue Waves Resort, Vila Rova and Villa Margaret. Apartment complexes include Ribarsko selo, Lavande and Jadroagent. The offer of private apartments is very good, and the smaller family camp Draga is the closest similar place for accommodation. The nearest marina is in Punat, which is 20 kilometers away.
