Sutivan's Feast of Saint Roch – The Largest Folk Celebration of Summer in Sutivan

Sutivan's Feast of Saint Roch is one of the most significant and well-attended events in Sutivan. It takes place every year on August 16, the feast day of Saint Roch, the town's patron, and gathers locals, expatriates, and numerous visitors who come to experience an authentic Dalmatian folk festival.

Saint Roch has held a special place in the life of Sutivan for centuries. The church dedicated to this saint is located on a hill above the town, and the feast of Saint Roch is traditionally one of the most important dates in the annual calendar. The religious part of the celebration begins with a solemn mass and a procession during which the statue of Saint Roch is carried through the town, with participation from locals, brotherhoods, and many worshippers.

After the religious program, the focus of the event shifts to the Sutivan waterfront and squares where the feast begins. The streets fill with visitors, the terraces of cafes and restaurants become social hubs, and the entire town takes on a festive atmosphere. Throughout the evening, concerts, performances by Dalmatian artists, and entertainment programs are held, often lasting late into the night.

Sutivan's feast is known for its relaxed atmosphere and traditional Dalmatian way of celebration. The aromas of food from restaurant terraces, music flowing along the waterfront, and gatherings of friends and family create an ambiance that can only be experienced during major island festivities.

For many residents of Sutivan, the feast of Saint Roch is the most important social event of the year. Numerous expatriates return to the town at this time, and visitors have the opportunity to learn about the authentic local traditions that have been passed down through generations.

If you find yourself in Brač in mid-August, Sutivan's Feast of Saint Roch is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with local customs, Dalmatian music, and the hospitality for which Sutivan is known.
