For the neo-Romanesque edifice with remotely noticeable green dome, stone was laid by Franjo Nagl, a Trieste bishop in 1906. The departure of Austria postponed the completion of the building designed by architect Karl Seidl. During the war itself, the barely covered construction kept the mules, on which the entire burden had collapsed at one point. The Italians continued building new road with stone supplied from Kastavnwhile the interior decoration used donated stained glass and paintings of Slovene King.
