Church of St. Francis in Senj, throughout its history, was once a Pantheon of Senj narrows. Namely, in this Franciscan church were buried the most respected priests and their families. The church was a symbol and pride of the city of Senj.

Today, this church is also known among the people as the tomb of the Uskoks, who gave their lives to the exuberance of popular survival.

The Church of St. Francis and the Franciscan monastery was built by Ivan Lenković. He was the captain of Senj as compensation for the ruined church of St. Francis, located outside the city walls, in the part of town known as St. Peter.

A new church was built within the city walls. It had a beautiful monumental facade adorned with the large rosette and coat of arms of Ivan Lenkovic and the old and new coat of arms of the princes of Frankopan. The interior of the church was decorated with Renaissance and Baroque artworks.

The monastery building still exists today in Senj. Fortunately, this building was not demolished during World War II bombing

For the citizens of Senj, this church was, to this day, something extraordinary.
