The parish was founded on September 1, 1991 and was entrusted to lay priests. The parish arose from part of the parish of the Heart of Jesus in Visoko, as well as from the parish of Our Lady of Mercy in Žnjan. The first pastor of the newly founded parish was don Ivan Cotic.Since the parish was without a parish house, the parish priest was initially allowed, according to the decision to establish the parish, to reside outside the parish territory, until he found some space for the parish chapel and himself for temporary residence in the parish area. After a while, that was resolved.Namely, with the understanding of the city authorities, the parish was allocated space for a kindergarten shelter for kindergartens, an area of about 150 square meters, which was soon arranged by the pastor, erected a movable wooden altar, the Tabernacle, the image of St. Joseph and the larger cross, which was sufficient for the beginning and already on December 15, 1991 the first parish mass was said there. The premises on the leased ground floor of a residential skyscraper served as the premises of the rectory. The parish registers began to be kept since 1992, when the parish received some conditions for operation. The parish church of St. Joseph began to be built five years after the parish was founded. The foundation stone was blessed on September 12, 1996 and already on September 12, 1997, the new parish church of St. Joseph was blessed and said to be the first Holy Mass, led by Archbishop Juric. The preliminary designers of the church were Neno Kezić and Eugen Širola. The church with a singing church is 400 square meters. Next to it is a bell tower with two bells, 34 meters high. An apartment building is connected to the church with an apartment for the pastor and other necessary premises.Today the church is completely decorated, thanks to the efforts of the pastor, the contributions of the faithful and the gifts of reputable Split companies. After the blessing, the work on the decoration of the church continued, and on the feast day of St. In 2001, the Archbishop performed her consecration. About 10,000 people live in the parish today.
