BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Klimno is a village in the Soline Bay on the island of Krk, located 11 kilometers from Omišalj. The village is located on the northeastern side of the island and has a little over a hundred inhabitants. The fastest way to get to Klimno is by car after crossing the Krk Bridge. You need to continue to Omišalj and then continue on the road to Klimno, which is about 11 kilometers away (about a ten-minute drive in total), while following the traffic signs. Omišalj Airport is located in the immediate vicinity, which is why traveling by plane is also a very popular choice. The nearest train station is in Rijeka, which is about 37 kilometers from Klimno. After arriving by train, you should choose a bus at the Rijeka station for the island of Krk. Before leaving, you should always check whether there is a bus line after arriving on the island to Klimno or whether you need to take a local bus line in Omišalj or Njivice. Arrivals by ferry or catamaran are scheduled for the port of Valbiska, which is located on the opposite, western side of the island.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Klimno, as a settlement in a bay, although isolated, was probably visited in earlier times, but its first traces are evidenced by the Romanesque church of St. Clement, which was first mentioned in historical sources around 1381. In the church, you can see a Renaissance wooden polyptych from the 16th century. Some other sights hidden in this small town are the Romanesque church of St. James (first mentioned in 1396), the ruins of the church of St. Peter in Soline, and a public house with a Glagolitic inscription from 1514. Klimno is also known for its small shipyard, which has been there since 1883, and the former pre-Romanesque salt pans.

BEACHES

The Klimno Bay includes the towns of Klimno, Soline and Čižići. There are several smaller beaches and coves in these places where the sea is very shallow and the favorable climatic conditions allow for swimming and many water sports. The locality of Meline, located between Soline and Čižići, should be particularly highlighted. The locality is known for its medicinal mud, which is used to treat gout. Due to its very healing effects on health, Meline is very frequently visited throughout the year.

OTHER CONTENT

Gastronomic specialties can be tried in the restaurants Žal and Oleander, where specialties such as fish, shellfish, meat and indigenous dishes and wines are offered. In the coffee bar Klement, you can enjoy a drink on the terrace. Entertainment is mainly related to fishermen's festivals, which are held several times during the summer season. In Klimno, there are also occasional concerts, most often featuring klapa evenings.

SPORT

Due to the favorable climate in Klimno, various water sports are very popular, and there is also the possibility of diving and sailing. For other activities, you can visit nearby places that have very nice hiking and biking trails next to nature itself.

WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

A very popular excursion in Klimno is a trip on the Klementa boat. It is a traditional boat built in 1909 that will remind every passenger of the atmosphere of the old times from the beginning of the 20th century. The boat departs from Klimno and is a very popular attraction. You can also visit other places on the island, as it is very easy to get from Klimno to Omišalj, Njivice, Šilo, Dobrinje and other settlements. You can also organize a trip to nearby islands such as Cres, Lošinj, Rab or Pag.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation in Klimno is provided by the apartments Kruljac, Marija, Šamanić, Žganjer, Pačić and Dubravka. There is no hotel or similar larger accommodation facility in the village, and the only notable one is Villa Škojić. All apartments are in the immediate vicinity of the sea and are surrounded by nature. Camp Slamni is available for visitors. Boaters will be able to enjoy Klimno because there is an anchorage for boats with numerous amenities.
