Nature Park Medvednica stretches over an area of 17.938 ha, 81% of which is covered by forest. It is located at an altitude from 120 to 1,035 m, while the highest peak is called Sljeme. Although Medvednica carries the name medvjed (bear in Croatian), bears do not reside in the Park for centuries now. There are many species of mammals, birds, insects and reptiles (including viper, our best-known poisonous snake). Vegetation of Medvednica is very rich, with 1,205 species and subspecies, 91 of which are strictly protected (yew, lily, orchid, etc.). The most widespread plant is common beech. If you like to pick mushrooms, be careful, because in the Park there are toxic and even deadly mushrooms. Explore Park's many cycling, hiking and educational trails, and if you are interested in geology, visit Miroslavec path leading from Sestinski Lagvic to Kraljicin zdenac. The entrance to the Nature Park Medvednica is free for all. If you want a guided tour, you will spend about 40 euros for the guide, with a surcharge of about 1.5 euros per person. Special tickets are charged for various educational programs, professional presentations, and entering the objects (caves, mines, fortifications, etc.) in the Park.
