The Malachological Museum of the Franciscan Monastery was founded in 1963 by Fr. Jure Radic. It is the most popular Malachi collection in Croatia because of its attractive setup of sea snails and shellfish of the Adriatic and the whole world. A valuable herbal plant of the Biokovo mountain and a small paleontological collection are kept in the museum along with the rich Malachi collection of Br. Jure Radic. The Malachi Museum in Makarska is a museum of shellfish. The museum is open to the public from April 30, 1963 and it is located the old part of the Franciscan monastery, which is a protected monument of culture. Of the more than 3000 specimens of shells in this museum, you can see not only the shells of the Adriatic Sea, but also the many species of tropical and subtropical seas.
