St. Dominic's Church, or St. Catherine of Alexandria Church. Among the people, this church is mistakenly called St. Dominic's Church because the church was founded by Dominicans who still have their own monastery next to the church itself. Right next to the eastern door of Diocletian's Palace, in ancient times there was a church dedicated to the martyr St. Catherine of Alexandria. In 1245 the Dominicans built a monastery with it. During numerous changes, the church was remodeled and decorated, and in 1448 it was also operated by Andrija Aleši. Due to the danger of the Turks, the monastery was completely demolished by the Venetian authorities. In the 17th century, the old church was replaced by a new, baroque one, which was expanded and rebuilt towards the end of the 19th century. The monastery was radically renovated in 2009. In 1870, around the monastery, on the site of an earlier archbishop's garden, Pazar, or Split's market, developed. The church has a valuable artistic inventory. In his will, Marko Marulić leaves the library of the Dominican Monastery in Split with several volumes, including works of Saint Jerome, all incunabula and chinchantines marked with the Latin inscription: Marcus Marul, who left us the year of the Lord in 1524. "After the poet's death, the Dominicans purchased the famous book" Orthography "by humanist Ivan Tortell from his legacy.
