The Duke's Palace in Zadar is recorded in historical sources in the 13th century. The mural structures show the Romanesque and Gothic layers of its whole in the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, the palace was first extensively remodeled, and in the 19th, once again, by the designs of the classicist architect Frane Zavore. The whole of the Duke's Palace consists of four wings, including a spacious inner courtyard with a cistern in the middle and pillars and porches all around. An elegant stone staircase leads upstairs with the town hall and other halls. The monumental entrance to the façade has a mannerist look. On the east side, a spacious Providur Palace with wings and courtyards was erected in the 17th century.
