Kopacki rit is located on the Croatian mainland, in the region called Slavonia and Baranja, on the north-eastern borders with Serbia and Hungary. This nature park is bounded by the rivers Drava and Danube. Kopacki rit is, in fact, a flooded area due to the impact of these two great rivers. Thanks to their influence, the area looks like a unique delta consisting of sandbanks, islets and the backwaters. The river water brings soil to some places, emptying the other parts, which creates ponds (depressions) and higher grounds. The maximum height difference between them is 8 meters. All this, together with the flora and fauna, makes Kopacki rit a unique area in Europe. Kopacki rit was declared a nature park in 1967, and since 1993 it has been a part of the list of Ramsar wetlands of international importance. It stretches over 17,700 hectares, of which the Special zoological reserve covers 8,000 hectares. The park has various types of vegetation - different types of forests and wetlands and aquatic vegetation. There are 54 species of mammals (European beaver, wild boar, European otter, deer, beech marten, etc.), and 293 bird species (white stork, black stork, heron, wild duck, pheasant, black-headed gull, wild goose, eagle, etc.) in the park. While visiting the park you can: rent a bike and enjoy its cycle lanes, participate in the program of "bird watching", sail a boat, take a walk and explore the educational trails, visit the castle Tikves, engage in recreational fishing or canoeing. The ticket price is 80 kuna (slightly more than 10 euros) for adults, and 60 kuna (approximately 8 euros) for children, pupils and students. Various trips are paid separately. The reception of the Kopacevo centre is open from 8 to 16 in January, February, March, November and December, and from 9 to 17 in April, May, June, July, August, September and October.
