BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Rogač is a town on the island of Šolta, in the Split-Dalmatia County, with about 100 permanent residents. It is located on the northern side of the island. It is the main port on the island and is connected by ferry and catamaran lines to Split several times a day. It is 9 Nm from Split, or an hour's ferry ride or a 30-minute catamaran ride. It is connected to the rest of the island by bus lines and taxi.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Rogač is the oldest coastal settlement on the island. The population has always stagnated, regardless of its proximity to Split. It has been reliably inhabited since Roman times. The remains of an ancient Roman farm building have been found in the Banje bay, and ancient walls have also been found in the sea on the other side of the bay. There are findings of a villa rusticae from the 3rd/4th century, which also had a bathroom.
BEACHES
Among the beaches, the local coves of Banje, Kašjun and Žustovo should be mentioned.
OTHER CONTENT
In addition to good wine, olive oil, and Mediterranean cuisine, Šolta is also known for its good honey. You can find the flavors of Dalmatian cuisine in the restaurants Pjero, Stara kuća, Komin, and on the family farm Kaštelanac. Also visit the Šolta tavern or the Pasarela pizzeria. Rogač is a quiet place, as is the entire island. Suitable for a family vacation, so those looking for a night out will have to go across the sea to Split.
SPORT
As in all places on the island you can enjoy the joys of the sea, although Rogač is more of a starting point for other places on the island. The entire island is crisscrossed with bike and hiking trails. Ideal for exploring the island.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
From Rogač you can explore the entire island. The ferry line connecting it with Split offers the possibility of numerous one-day trips. From the Split port there are connections to all the central Dalmatian islands, and numerous agencies organize one-day trips to the Krka and Plitvice Lakes national parks, the Biokovo nature park, the Cetina canyon and Omiš, Dubrovnik, Međugorje and Makarska further south, and Šibenik and Zadar further north.
ACCOMMODATION
In addition to private apartments, houses and luxury villas for vacation in Rogač, in the Banje bay there is a Eurocamp for children with numerous facilities. In Rogač there is also a small charter base for sailboats with all the necessary facilities. It is 2-6 meters deep and has 25 berths.
