The Congregation of the Sisters of The Servant of Mercy was established by Paola di Rosa (St. Mary of the Crucifixa di Rosa) in Brescia / Italy in 1840. The Congregation wanted to provide a response of Christian love to the general sufferings of the people of their time. As soon as the company was approved, Bishop Toma Jederlinic of Dubrovnik invited the sisters to Dubrovnik. The sisters came and opened the house at Pile 1853 and operated the orphanage. Then they open a public school, a preparatory school, and a civic school. Communism left them without everything they had practiced for almost a hundred years, and today they only hold an educational center.
