Bjažićovo Beach in Komiža

Bjažićovo Beach is a small pebble beach on the northern side of the Komiža bay, situated between the center of Komiža and the town beach Gusarica. It is hidden among stone houses and two rocky outcrops, making it almost unnoticeable from the main street and more distant parts of the coast. This location gives it a quieter, local character, although it is only a few minutes' walk from the waterfront.

Bjažićovo is not a spacious city beach with many amenities. It is a small cove frequented for quick swimming, clear waters, and proximity to the old part of Komiža. It is most suitable for guests staying in nearby houses and visitors seeking a quieter spot than the nearby Gusarica, without leaving the settlement.

Pebble Cove between Stone Houses

The central part of the beach is covered with pebbles, while rocky formations and stone houses rise almost to the water's edge on both sides. On the eastern side, there is a smaller concrete pier where boats can be seen moored. Due to the limited space on the beach, there is not much room for towels, and it can fill up quickly during the summer even with a smaller number of swimmers.

The easiest entry into the sea is over the pebbly section. The bottom is initially rocky and pebbly, with a gradual increase in depth, although the shallow area is not as wide as on larger family beaches. Water shoes are not necessary, but they can be useful near the edges of the cove and the concrete pier, where the surface may be uneven or slippery.

As there are small moorings near the beach, swimmers should pay attention to boats and remain within the safe part of the bay. For longer swims, it is advisable to move away from the area where vessels approach the shore.

Shade and Amenities at the Beach

There is not enough reliable natural shade on the pebbly section for an all-day stay. Surrounding houses and rocks may cast shadows at certain times of the day, but it is not advisable to rely on this for protection during the peak summer heat. For longer stays, it is best to bring your own sun protection.

There are no tourist facilities at the location. Do not expect a beach bar, sunbed rentals, restrooms, or organized children's facilities on the beach. Shops, cafes, and restaurants are located a few minutes' walk away, towards the center of Komiža and Gusarica beach.

Bjažićovo is therefore more suitable for a few hours of swimming rather than an all-day stay with a lot of equipment. It is best to bring water, towels, and everything else you may need.

How to Get to Bjažićovo Beach

From the center of Komiža, walk along Ribarska Street towards the northern side of the bay and Gusarica beach. It takes approximately seven to ten minutes of easy walking from the main waterfront, depending on your starting point. Bjažićovo is located before Gusarica, below the houses along the coast, and the final approach leads through a short passage to the sea.

The walk from the center is not long or physically demanding, but the old part of Komiža has narrow streets, stone surfaces, and some unevenness. For most visitors, regular sandals are sufficient, although more stable shoes are practical for those who find walking on stone challenging.

Cars cannot access the beach directly. The street along this part of the coast is narrow and not suitable for parking directly by the cove. It is best to leave your vehicle at the public parking lots Rogači or Norpina, or at another marked and permitted location, and continue on foot to the beach. During the summer season, public parking in Komiža is paid, and it is advisable to check the current regulations before arrival.

Is Bjažićovo Suitable for Children?

The pebbly entry into the sea may be suitable for children accustomed to swimming, but due to the small area, proximity to boats, and lack of amenities, it is not among the most practical choices for families with very young children. For more space, easier organization of the stay, and longer visits, the nearby Gusarica is more appropriate.

Older children may find Bjažićovo pleasant for shorter swims, especially when there are not many people. Supervision is necessary due to the pier, moored boats, and occasionally slippery surfaces near the water.

For individuals with reduced mobility, the final approach and crossing over the pebbles may be challenging. The beach is not adapted for wheelchair users, and access with strollers depends on the chosen path and the amount of items being carried.

Best Time for Swimming

The most pleasant time to visit is in the morning when there is usually more free space on the small cove and the sun is not yet strong. Later in the afternoon, part of the beach may receive some shade from surrounding buildings, but it is also when more swimmers arrive after their daily commitments or return from other beaches.

Bjažićovo can be visited year-round, but the actual swimming season lasts from late spring to early autumn. Outside of summer, the beach is very quiet and suitable for a short walk along the coast, while during July and August, its true character as a small urban cove primarily used by locals and nearby guests is most evident.

Bjažićovo Beach will not suit those looking for a wide shore, all-day shade, and a large number of amenities. Its advantage lies in being small, hidden among stone houses, and close enough to the center that it can be reached without a car and special planning.
