Komiška Regatta – Sailing Regatta Split – Komiža – Split

The Komiška Regatta is one of the more well-known sailing regattas in the Adriatic and an event that brings a large number of sailboats and their crews to Komiža every year at the end of May. Organized by the Sailing Club Labud from Split, the regatta sails the route Split – Komiža – Split, making Komiža the central gathering place for sailors during the regatta weekend.

Unlike the Palagruža Route, which is linked to the historical Komiža falkušas and the old fishing route to Palagruža, the Komiška Regatta is a modern sports regatta for cruising yachts. Therefore, these two events should be viewed separately – both are connected to the sea and Komiža, but they represent completely different aspects of its maritime story.

Route Split – Komiža – Split

The Komiška Regatta typically lasts three days. The first leg sails on Friday from Split to Komiža, where crews enter Komiža Bay after several hours of sailing and complete the first part of the competition.

The distance from Split to Komiža is approximately 32 nautical miles, and the route passes through the areas of the Split, Šolta, Hvar, Vis, and Biševo channels, ending in Komiža Bay. The actual sailing tactics and choice of the fastest line depend on the wind and sea conditions.

Saturday has traditionally been a day of rest and socializing for the crews in Komiža, giving the entire event a special character. The sailboats remain in the harbor, and crews have the opportunity to spend the day in the town before the return leg.

On Sunday, the second leg sails from Komiža to Split, after which the regatta concludes and the most successful crews are announced.

When is the Komiška Regatta Held?

The Komiška Regatta does not have the same calendar date every year, but the timing is significantly more predictable than some other Komiža events.

In recent years, it has been held at the end of May, most often during the last weekend of May, and depending on the calendar, the final day may also fall in early June.

For example:

    1. – May 27–29
    1. – May 26–28
    1. – May 31–June 2
    1. – May 30–June 1
    1. – May 29–31

Therefore, for planning a visit, it is best to consider the end of May, but before booking accommodation, check the officially published dates for the specific year.

Komiška Regatta 2026

The jubilee 35th Komiška Regatta took place from May 29 to 31, 2026.

The first leg started on Friday from Split to Komiža, while the return leg from Komiža to Split was scheduled for Sunday. A special feature of the 35th edition was the planned promotional regatta in Komiža Bay on Saturday, which brought the sailing closer to the audience watching from the shore.

This sailing in the bay is particularly interesting for visitors as the sailboats can be observed from a much closer distance than during the main route between Split and Komiža.

Where is the Best Place to Watch the Regatta in Komiža?

For visitors, the most interesting moment is the arrival of the fleet in Komiža Bay and the entry of the sailboats into the harbor after the first leg. A good view can be had from the waterfront and various parts of the coastline around the bay, while the harbor itself is filled with sailboats during the regatta weekend.

In 2025, as many as 57 sailboats participated in the first leg, which clearly shows how much the appearance of Komiža harbor changes during this weekend. The first leg that year was approximately 32 nautical miles long, and 51 sailboats successfully reached the finish in Komiža.

Thus, the regatta is not only interesting for active sailors. If staying in Komiža at the end of May, it is worth checking if the regatta is taking place that weekend, as the large number of sailboats, crews, and events in the harbor creates a completely different atmosphere than during a regular pre-season weekend.

Where to Follow Dates and Current Information?

The main and most reliable source is the official website of the Komiška Regatta of the Sailing Club Labud, where the date, regatta announcement, registrations, starting lists, program, results, and other important information are published:

Since the exact dates are determined for each edition, it is always best to check the JK Labud website before arrival.

The Komiška Regatta has been connecting sailing in Split and Komiža for decades, and the weekend spent between the two competitive legs is one of the reasons why the town has become an integral part of the regatta's identity. For visitors to Komiža, it is an opportunity to see the town's bay filled with sailboats and experience the place during a time when the tourist season is just beginning to pick up.
