The chronicles say that as early as 1342 the first church of St. Vlaho was bult on the site of the present.As Ston became the bishop's center this church became a cathedral. It was destroyed in the great earthquake of 1667.The decision of the Dubrovnik Senate after the earthquake was to immediately begin the construction of a new cathedral on the site demolished.In 1850 there was an earthquake again which also demolished this building and in 1870 the present-day church of St. Blaise was built in pseudo - Byzantine style.In 1996, it was devastated by an earthquake and rebuilt for a number of years.
