Caffe Bar Škor is situated in Škor, a small square tucked away among the stone houses of old Komiža, only a few minutes' walk from the waterfront. The sea is not visible from here as it is from the cafés by the harbour, but this location is precisely what gives Škor a different atmosphere. Instead of tables along a tourist promenade, patrons sit among old houses in one of the coziest corners of the old town.

During the day, Škor is a good spot for coffee and a break from the sun, while in the evening it transforms into a livelier bar where cocktails play a much more significant role. It is not a place for lunch or a typical café where one merely stops for an espresso. It makes the most sense when you want to escape the waterfront, sit outside, and linger over a drink.

Škor is part of the experience

At this bar, the location is almost as important as what you order. Škor Square is small, enclosed by old stone facades and connected by narrow passages leading from the centre of Komiža into the older part of the town.

During the day, the stone houses provide some shade, making it more comfortable here than on the completely open waterfront when the sun is blazing. In the evening, the square takes on a completely different character – tables fill up, the lighting among the houses creates a warmer ambiance, and there is no constant flow of people as there is along the main promenade.

For this reason, it is a good idea to come here after dinner. It takes just a few minutes to walk from the restaurants on the waterfront to Škor, and the change in atmosphere is almost immediate.

Cocktails are an important part of the offering

In recent seasons, Škor has increasingly emphasised cocktails. Alongside classics like Aperol Spritz and other well-known summer drinks, they also craft more serious mixed combinations, so this is not just a place for beer or gemišt.

If you come in the evening, having a cocktail here makes more sense than yet another coffee. For those who enjoy the classics, you can stick to a spritz or gin and tonic, but it’s best to ask what they are currently serving as a special or seasonal combination.

Unlike the more modern bars right by the harbour, a significant part of the experience here lies in enjoying a cocktail in the old Komiža square, just a few dozen metres from the sea, but completely away from the harbour's bustle.

In the morning, it’s a different story

In the morning, Škor is much quieter. It’s a good time for an espresso or a long coffee before heading to the beach, the harbour, or on an island excursion.

Those staying in the old part of Komiža will quickly discover that it’s sometimes more pleasant to come to Škor for the first coffee than to descend to the busiest part of the waterfront. There’s no need for special planning – you can simply sit down, have a coffee, and carry on.

Later in the day, the number of guests coming for a cold drink increases, and the bar only takes on its true character in the evening.

Beer, wine, and simple drinks also make sense

You don’t necessarily have to order a cocktail. Škor is still a café bar where it makes perfect sense to sit down for a beer, wine, gemišt, or a spirit.

This is particularly a good choice for a group where someone wants a cocktail while others prefer a cold beer. The atmosphere is relaxed, and there’s no need to dress up or plan an entire evening around going out.

In Komiža, such places are welcome as it’s easy to make an evening circuit: dinner on the waterfront, a short walk through the old streets, drinks at Škor, and then on to the harbour or one of the other bars.

Don’t count on food here

Škor should primarily be viewed as a bar and drinking spot, not as a restaurant. There are plenty of other options nearby for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, so it’s no problem to eat something first and then move a few steps away to Škor.

This is actually a better combination than trying to spend the entire evening in one place. The square is particularly pleasant for finishing a meal with a drink, when there’s no longer a need to look at a menu or search for a table by the sea.

Škor or a café by the harbour?

It depends on what you’re looking for. For a view of boats, the sun, and constant activity, the better spots are right by the sea. For a more intimate setting among old houses, Škor is more interesting.

This is not a place to come and photograph the sunset over Komiža Bay. People come here for the atmosphere of the square, conversation, and drinks in a space that in the evening feels almost like a small open living room of old Komiža.

It particularly suits couples and smaller groups. A large group looking for a louder night out may continue elsewhere later, but for a first or last drink of the evening, Škor is a very good choice.

How to get there

From the main Komiža waterfront, you simply need to turn among the old houses towards Škor. The walk takes just a few minutes, and there’s no reason to come by car.

Guests arriving from another part of the island are best off leaving their vehicle in a public car park and exploring the rest of Komiža on foot. The streets around Škor are narrow and not suitable for parking.

This is one of the advantages of the location – it’s close enough to the waterfront to be easily found, yet a few dozen metres inland completely changes the atmosphere.

When is the best time to visit

For coffee – in the morning. For a cold drink and a short break – late afternoon. For the full Škor experience – in the evening.

In summer, it’s particularly pleasant when the daytime heat subsides and the tables in the square come to life. This is when the unique qualities that set this bar apart from most places on the Komiža waterfront truly shine.

Caffe Bar Škor is not a place to choose for a large menu or a sea view. It is worthwhile precisely for the opposite – a small stone square, old Komiža, and a good evening drink just a few steps away from the main crowds.
