New "Pope John Paul II's Field" was built on the former old Zadar's square known as the "Green Square" where there was a green market until the end of World War II, and on a part of the Roman Forum. In the area south of the Roman Forum, where the vast meadow (Campus lat.) was built in the Middle Ages, it was decorated in the 16th century, giving the appearance of a tiled square (from the 18th century called the Green Square - Piazza dell 'Erbe) in the center of which, according to the project of the engineer Giangirolam Sanmicheli, a large drinking water tank was built, with a well around which a green market developed.
