At the entrance to the city, the church of Sv. Sebastian was built in 1466 as a protection against plague. It was built by Mihoč Radišić and Vlatko Dešković, and in the following decades numerous local masters carved architectural decorations, and other parts. The Renaissance semicircular apse of this church is the first example of its kind in the sacral architecture of Dubrovnik. In 1808, the French converted the church into a prison, and today it houses a gallery. Below the church are stone masonry workshops and stone warehouses.
