Šer Zane – Restaurant and Pizzeria by the Sea in Vela Stiniva

Šer Zane is a family-run restaurant and pizzeria situated practically on the shore of Vela Stiniva, one of the most striking bays on the northern side of Hvar. Just a few steps separate the tables from the sea and the pebbly beach, while high limestone cliffs rise above the bay, making Vela Stiniva recognizable.

This is not a typical tourist restaurant located along a busy promenade. Šer Zane is located at the end of a narrow bay, among a few houses and a small dock, providing a different, quieter island atmosphere for lunch or dinner.

Restaurant Almost on the Beach

The location is the main feature of Šer Zane. The terrace is right by the sea, making the restaurant a natural extension of a day spent at Vela Stiniva beach.

This is particularly convenient for those coming to the bay for a full day of swimming. There is no need to return to Zastražišće by car for lunch – one can practically walk straight from the sea to the meal and back to the beach afterward.

The high cliffs surrounding the bay create a distinctive ambiance, especially in the evening when the daytime crowds of bathers diminish.

Fish, Dalmatian Dishes, and Pizza

Šer Zane combines a restaurant and pizzeria. The menu features Mediterranean and Dalmatian dishes, fresh fish, and pizza, catering to guests who want a classic fish meal as well as those looking for something simpler after swimming.

Pizza is one of the more recognizable offerings, prepared in a wood-fired oven. Traditional dishes such as black risotto and daily fish are also available, with the selection naturally depending on availability.

The exact choice of fish and specific dishes may vary, so it is best to ask the staff about the daily offerings upon arrival.

Family Tradition in Vela Stiniva

Šer Zane is not a new seasonal restaurant opened solely for today's tourism. The Dragičević family has been involved in hospitality in Vela Stiniva for decades, making the restaurant a long-standing part of life in this small bay.

In addition to the restaurant, the family also manages accommodation, further demonstrating how Šer Zane is connected to Vela Stiniva, not just to summer day visitors.

Part of the property is also connected to the old stone complex in the bay, dominated by the historical country house Duboković-Nadalini. This allows the restaurant to fit well into the traditional appearance of the small coastal settlement.

Buffet Kod Mate and Šer Zane Are Not the Same Establishment

In Vela Stiniva, there is also Buffet Kod Mate, but it is a completely separate establishment.

Kod Mate is a simple café for coffee, juice, beer, and other drinks, while Šer Zane is a restaurant and pizzeria where one comes for lunch or dinner.

This combination is very practical for beachgoers: during the day, one can go for a drink at Kod Mate, while Šer Zane provides a more substantial meal.

Access by Car

To reach Vela Stiniva, one descends from Zastražišće via a local asphalt road. The road leads all the way to the bay, but it is narrow, winding, and requires caution in certain sections when passing.

This is not a gravel access road, but driving is significantly slower than one might conclude based solely on the distance on a map.

Šer Zane has parking spaces designated for its guests. This should not be confused with public parking for the entire beach – if one is coming to Vela Stiniva just for swimming, public parking spaces in the bay are used.

Access by Sea

Vela Stiniva has a small protected harbor area and docks, so guests also arrive by sea during the summer.

However, the moorings and docks near certain establishments should not automatically be considered public berths. If arriving by boat to Šer Zane and wishing to dock safely, it is best to check in advance where docking is permitted.

Lunch After Swimming or a Quieter Dinner

Šer Zane has two different atmospheres throughout the day.

For lunch, it is a natural continuation of a day at the beach – swimwear, the sea just a few meters away, and the informal atmosphere of a small bay. In the evening, when a large portion of daytime visitors head back to Zastražišće and other parts of the island, Vela Stiniva becomes significantly quieter.

At this time, the unique qualities of this restaurant become even more apparent: there is no city promenade or traffic by the terrace, but rather a view towards the exit of the narrow stone bay and the open sea on the northern side of Hvar.

Is It Worth Visiting Just for the Restaurant?

If staying in Zastražišće or exploring the bays in this part of Hvar, Šer Zane can be a good reason to visit Vela Stiniva for more than just swimming.

The best combination is to arrive early, spend part of the day on the pebbly beach, stroll along the coast, and then sit down for lunch or dinner by the sea.

In the immediate vicinity, there is also the well-known climbing area Vela Stiniva, so the restaurant is often used by climbers who stay in the bay for a meal after their activities.
