Šer Zane – Restaurant and Pizzeria by the Sea in Vela Stiniva

Šer Zane is a family-run restaurant and pizzeria located practically on the shore of Vela Stiniva, one of the most striking coves on the northern side of Hvar. Just a few steps separate the tables from the sea and the pebbly beach, while the high limestone cliffs that characterise Vela Stiniva rise above the cove.

This is not your typical tourist restaurant along a busy promenade. Šer Zane is situated at the end of a narrow cove, among a few houses and a small harbour, providing a distinctly different, quieter island atmosphere for lunch or dinner.

Restaurant Almost on the Beach

The location is the standout feature of Šer Zane. The terrace is right by the water, making it a natural extension of a day spent at Vela Stiniva beach.

This is particularly convenient if you are visiting the cove for a full day of swimming. There’s no need to return to Zastražišće by car for lunch – you can practically walk straight from the sea to your meal, and then back to the beach afterwards.

The high cliffs surrounding the cove create a very distinctive atmosphere, especially in the evening when the daytime crowds of bathers begin to thin out.

Fish, Dalmatian Dishes, and Pizza

Šer Zane combines a restaurant and pizzeria. The menu features Mediterranean and Dalmatian dishes, fresh fish, and pizza, catering to guests who desire a classic fish meal as well as those looking for something simpler after swimming.

Pizza is one of the more recognisable offerings, prepared in a wood-fired oven. Traditional dishes such as black risotto and daily fish are also available, with the selection naturally depending on availability.

The exact choice of fish and specific dishes may vary, so it’s best to ask the staff about the daily offerings upon arrival.

Family Tradition in Vela Stiniva

Šer Zane is not a new seasonal restaurant opened solely for today’s tourism. The Dragičević family has been involved in hospitality in Vela Stiniva for decades, making the restaurant a long-standing part of life in this small cove.

In addition to the restaurant, the family also manages accommodation, further demonstrating how closely Šer Zane is connected to Vela Stiniva, rather than just catering to summer day visitors.

A part of the establishment is linked to the old stone complex in the cove, dominated by the historic country house Duboković-Nadalini. This allows the restaurant to blend well with the traditional appearance of the small coastal settlement.

Kod Mate and Šer Zane Are Not the Same Establishment

In Vela Stiniva, there is also Buffet Kod Mate, but it is a completely separate establishment.

Kod Mate is a simple café for coffee, juice, beer, and other drinks, while Šer Zane is a restaurant and pizzeria where one comes for lunch or dinner.

This combination is very practical for beachgoers: during the day, you can pop over to Kod Mate for a drink, while Šer Zane caters to more substantial meals.

Access by Car

To reach Vela Stiniva, you descend from Zastražišće via a local asphalt road. The road leads directly to the cove, but it is narrow, winding, and requires caution in places when passing other vehicles.

While it is not a gravel road, driving is significantly slower than one might expect based solely on the distance shown on a map.

Šer Zane has parking spaces designated for its guests. This should not be confused with public parking for the entire beach – if you are coming to Vela Stiniva just for swimming, you will use the available public parking spots in the cove.

Access by Sea

Vela Stiniva has a small protected harbour area, so guests arriving by sea can also visit the cove during the summer.

However, berths and moorings near certain establishments should not automatically be considered public docking spots. If you are approaching Šer Zane by boat and wish to dock safely, it is best to check in advance where mooring is permitted.

Lunch After Swimming or a Quieter Dinner

Šer Zane offers two different atmospheres throughout the day.

For lunch, it is a natural continuation of a day at the beach – swimwear, the sea just a few metres away, and the informal atmosphere of a small cove. In the evening, when many of the day visitors head back to Zastražišće and other parts of the island, Vela Stiniva becomes significantly quieter.

At this time, the unique charm of this restaurant becomes even more apparent: there is no busy promenade or traffic near the terrace, just a view of the exit from the narrow stone cove and the open sea on the northern side of Hvar.

Is It Worth Visiting Just for the Restaurant?

If you are staying in Zastražišće or exploring the coves in this part of Hvar, Šer Zane can be a good reason to visit Vela Stiniva for more than just swimming.

The best combination is to arrive early, spend part of the day on the pebbly beach, stroll along the coast, and then sit down for lunch or dinner by the sea.

In the immediate vicinity, there is also the well-known climbing area of Vela Stiniva, so the restaurant is often frequented by climbers who stay in the cove for a meal after their activities.
