BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Nečujam is a settlement on the northern side of the island of Šolta, in the Split-Dalmatia County. It was created by the construction of holiday homes and hotels. According to the last census, it has 93 inhabitants. It is 8 kilometers away from the island's main port, Rogača. It is located in the largest bay of the island and is the youngest settlement on the island.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
The name of the place, the Latin name Vallis surda or deaf bay, comes from the Nečujam bay itself, which is able to hide every sound or turn it into a tiny whisper, as Marko Marulić describes it in his verses. In the 4th century, Emperor Diocletian used the smallest bay in Nečujam as his fishpond. That is why the bay is now called Piškera, and the ruins are still there today, at the bottom of the sea. The remains of a Roman acropolis have also been found near the Supetar bay. Nearby are the ruins of a Gothic church from the 15th century. Since then, the place has remained only for vacation, not for work. With the construction of weekend houses and tourist resorts, Nečujam has become a modern tourist resort.
BEACHES
The whole place gravitates towards the main central beach, above which there is a large apartment complex. The entire bay is made up of seven coves with pebble or rocky beaches. These are Bok Supetra, Podkamenica, Maslinica, Tiha, Bok od rata, Piškera and Supetar. They have clear sea and natural shade from pine trees.
OTHER CONTENT
Restaurants offering Dalmatian specialties and good wine include 4 Dame, Paradise Bay, Punta, Sveti Petar and Lubin, as well as the Mareta tavern and Slavko pizzeria. Numerous bars and beach bars are open late into the night, and the Ćuvita discotheque will satisfy even the most hardy of night-time party-goers.
SPORT
In addition to the joys of the sea and the large aquapark, you can hike, jog, dive, and cycle all over the island. Outdoor activity enthusiasts will be able to find something for themselves.
