Lonely Paradise in Tatinja Cove – A Hidden Restaurant on the Southern Coast of Šolta
Lonely Paradise is located in Tatinja Cove on the southern coast of Šolta, away from settlements, traffic, and typical summer crowds. It is not a restaurant that one stumbles upon while walking along the promenade. Situated right by the sea, among rocks, greenery, and a few stone houses, the journey to the restaurant itself is part of the experience.
The restaurant is designed in a relaxed, somewhat Robinson Crusoe style. Tables are not arranged in one large space but on several terraces and smaller levels above the sea. Between them are stone walls, trees, and natural shade, making some tables feel almost isolated from the rest of the restaurant.
The greatest feature of Lonely Paradise is not just the food but the location. From the terraces, there are views of the interior of Tatinja Cove, anchored sailboats, and the open sea to the south. The sea in the cove is usually calm, clear, and intensely blue or turquoise, leading many guests to associate their visit with swimming and spending the whole day in the cove.
The cuisine is based on traditional Dalmatian dishes made from fish and meat. Depending on daily availability, the menu may include fresh fish, seafood dishes, octopus, meat, prosciutto, vegetables, olive oil, and simple Mediterranean sides.
Among the dishes that the restaurant particularly highlights are pašticada and peka. Peka is prepared with veal, lamb, fish, or octopus, but it is not a dish that can be ordered upon arrival. It must be reserved in advance, at least a few hours prior, and the minimum order applies to multiple persons.
The menu is not designed as a large urban menu with dozens of constantly available dishes. The quantities of certain ingredients depend on daily supplies and the number of guests, so it is best to check the current menu before arrival and arrange what you would like to eat.
The restaurant is particularly accommodating to sailors. The cove has a mooring system for guests, and tying up and overnight stays on a buoy are subject to the restaurant's reservation rules. According to the restaurant's current information, the buoys are limited and intended for guests who come for dinner, with a separate fee for mooring.
Free anchoring in the cove is not permitted, so sailors should check mooring rules in advance and reserve a buoy. One should not expect to simply sail in and find a free spot without prior notice in the middle of the season.
Lonely Paradise can also be accessed by land, but this is not a typical arrival via an asphalt road to a restaurant parking lot. Access to the southern coast of Šolta leads from the direction of Grohoto via local and unpaved roads, and the last part is traversed on foot through nature and terrain along the cove.
The path is not suitable for low-clearance vehicles or drivers who are not accustomed to narrow, uneven island roads. After rain, the condition of the unpaved road may be worse, while in summer, dust and stones further slow down driving. It is best to check the most practical route and where the vehicle can be left before setting off.
There is no large public parking area immediately next to the restaurant. Therefore, land access should be planned in advance, allowing enough time for walking and returning. For evening visits, it is useful to bring a flashlight or a mobile phone with sufficient battery, as the path through the cove is not well lit everywhere.
Access for persons with reduced mobility may be challenging. The terraces are arranged at different levels, and there are stone steps and uneven surfaces between them. The same applies to families with small children in strollers, for whom arriving by boat or land needs careful organization.
Lonely Paradise is not a place for a quick lunch without a reservation. It is best experienced as a planned outing: arriving by boat or on foot, swimming in the cove, having a late lunch or dinner, and spending a few hours without haste.
The atmosphere is most pleasant in the evening when the sun is no longer strong, and the cove becomes quieter. This is when the seclusion of the place is best felt, especially when the lights from the terraces reflect on the sea, and there is no city noise or traffic in the surroundings.
The restaurant operates seasonally. Exact opening and closing dates, operating hours, and table availability should be checked before arrival. Outside the main summer season, one should not assume that the restaurant will be open, even in nice weather.
Reservations are particularly important for dinner, larger groups, using a buoy, and ordering peka. There are very few options available for vegans and vegetarians, so such dietary requests should be announced in advance.
There are no shops, ATMs, pharmacies, or other tourist facilities in the immediate vicinity. Everything needed for a stay in the cove, such as water, sun protection, footwear for rocky shores, and swimming gear, should be brought along.
Lonely Paradise is best suited for guests seeking peace, nature, and a slower dining experience. It may not be practical for everyone, but the distance, limited access, and location above the sea create an experience that differs from restaurants in Šolta's settlements.
