Fat Rabbit by R&B Food in Komiža
Fat Rabbit is located on the Komiža waterfront, right by the sea, and differs significantly from most restaurants in the immediate vicinity. It is not a classic Dalmatian tavern, nor is it a typical burger or BBQ restaurant. The concept combines what R&B Food is already known for – ribs, wings, and more substantial meat dishes – with fish and ingredients that make sense specifically on Vis.
This allows for the ordering of baby back ribs and fish steak at the same table, making Fat Rabbit a practical choice for groups where not everyone wants the same thing. The menu is not overly extensive, but it offers enough variety to choose from meat, fish, breakfast, lighter dishes, and cocktails.
Ribs are one of the main reasons to visit
Baby Back Ribs are one of the signature dishes at Fat Rabbit. They are served with BBQ sauce, fries, and coleslaw, making them a solid choice when a hearty meat meal is desired without much thought.
A combination of ribs and Buffalo chicken wings is an interesting option for sharing. This works particularly well for two or more people who want to try several items instead of each ordering a separate main dish.
On the meat side of the menu, steaks, veal ribs, and other grilled dishes are available. The offerings are strong enough that Fat Rabbit can be chosen even if one does not plan to eat fish at all.
The fish selection is not just an addition
Although meat is an important part of the restaurant's identity, the fish dishes here are not included on the menu just for the sake of it. On Vis, this makes particular sense, and several more serious fish options prepared in a modern way can be found.
Depending on the current catch, options may include tuna, dentex, barracuda, and other fish, accompanied by sides that are more restaurant-style than tavern-style – vegetables, potatoes prepared in various ways, samphire, wild chervil, lighter sauces, and aromatic additions.
For something less formal, one can look for fish & chips or fish patties. Such dishes are good when a taste of the sea is desired, but not a classic whole fish from the grill.
It is worth asking what is best available that day regarding fish. If there is an interesting daily catch, it is often a better choice than automatically ordering the most well-known type of fish.
Breakfast and late morning meals
Fat Rabbit is also interesting because it is not limited to lunch and dinner. The menu includes eggs, sandwiches, granola, chia bowls, and more substantial combinations for breakfast or late morning meals.
For someone who does not want to get up early from their apartment just to catch breakfast, this concept fits well with the rhythm of relaxation in Komiža. It is particularly practical after a late morning, before heading to the beach, or when returning from an excursion at an unusual time for lunch.
The Chef's Sandwich is among the heartier options and is more of a full meal than a light breakfast. For something lighter, granola, chia, or simpler egg dishes are better.
Local ingredients without pretending to be a tavern
Fat Rabbit does not attempt to look like a traditional Vis tavern, which is actually its advantage. Local ingredients are used where they make sense, without forcing the narrative that everything is an old island recipe.
On the plates, you will find wild chervil, samphire, olive oil, local eggs, fish, and other ingredients associated with the island. This allows the restaurant to maintain its own style while still clearly feeling like it is located on Vis, not in any city.
Among the desserts, it is worth checking if there are carob cakes or other combinations that use island ingredients. After heavier ribs, such a dessert is often a better finish than another very sweet and heavy dish.
Cocktails by the waterfront
Fat Rabbit is not just a place to eat. In the evening, the terrace by the sea works well for a cocktail before or after dinner.
The location on the waterfront means that the evening rhythm of Komiža can be felt here – passersby, boats, people going out for dinner, and walking by the sea. This is not a place for a completely quiet dinner in a secluded corner, but that liveliness appeals to many.
For evening visits during July and August, making a reservation makes sense, especially if you want a table outside by the waterfront.
A good choice for different groups
Fat Rabbit is particularly practical for groups where some want meat, others fish, and others something lighter. There is no need to choose between a steakhouse and a fish restaurant, as both directions are found on the same menu.
For those who have been eating grilled fish, gregada, and classic tavern specialties for several days, this is a good change with ribs, wings, or a burger. On the other hand, someone who does not want meat still has plenty of reasons to visit.
This is precisely what Fat Rabbit does best – it does not try to be just another tavern on the waterfront, but offers something more modern and relaxed, while still being connected enough to Vis to not feel like a generic restaurant transplanted to the island.
Location and arrival
The restaurant is located right on the Komiža waterfront and can be reached on foot from the center in a few minutes. A car is neither necessary nor practical here.
It is best to leave the vehicle in the public parking lot in Komiža and continue on foot towards the waterfront. During the peak season, searching for a spot right by the center generally just wastes time.
The location is also convenient before or after a boat excursion, as the Komiža port is right next to the restaurant.
Who will Fat Rabbit suit best
It will suit guests who want a more modern restaurant on the waterfront, without the obligation for dinner to be exclusively traditional Dalmatian. It is a good choice for BBQ lovers, for those who want fish prepared a bit differently, and for groups where it is difficult to agree on what to eat.
It is particularly appealing after several days of classic island cuisine when a change is desired without leaving the center of Komiža.
Fat Rabbit makes sense precisely because of the combination: serious meat dishes, a good fish selection, breakfast, cocktails, and a terrace by the sea. It is not a place that tries to offer everything, but a restaurant that has a clear style that easily distinguishes it from the rest of the Komiža waterfront.
