Slavinka Restaurant in Ivan Dolac – Dalmatian Cuisine, Wood-Fired Pizza and a Large Terrace by the Sea

Slavinka Restaurant is located in the coastal area of Ivan Dolac, right by the sea and just a few steps from the pebble beach. It is one of the longest-standing restaurants in the area, serving guests for over 50 years.

Slavinka is not a restaurant focused on complicated modern gastronomy. The menu is based on what complements a summer holiday by the sea: fish and seafood, grilled dishes, pasta, risottos, and wood-fired pizzas.

The main advantage is the large covered terrace with an unobstructed view of the sea. Due to its proximity to the beach, Slavinka is particularly convenient for lunch after swimming, but the terrace is also very pleasant in the evening when the daytime heat subsides.

Over 50 Years of Restaurant Tradition

Slavinka is part of the older hospitality story of Ivan Dolac.

The restaurant has been operating for more than half a century, dating back to a time when the tourist offerings on the southern side of Hvar were significantly more modest than today.

This is reflected in the restaurant's concept. The menu is not trend-driven but focuses on well-known Dalmatian and Mediterranean dishes that appeal to a wide range of guests.

As a result, those who want fresh fish, children who prefer pizza, and guests who favour grilled meat can all dine together without issue.

Fish and Seafood

The seafood section of the menu is one of the main reasons to visit.

Depending on the daily offerings, you can find fresh fish from the grill, with sea bream and sea bass being common choices.

The fish is prepared simply, served with a side and olive oil, without unnecessary masking of the sea's flavours.

For the freshest fish, it's best to ask what is available that day.

Grilled Squid

Grilled squid is one of Slavinka's classic choices.

It is served as a simple Mediterranean dish, without complicated additions, making it a good option after a day at the beach.

Other squid and seafood dishes appear on the menu, depending on seasonal availability.

If you want a lighter lunch, squid with a side and salad is one of the safer options.

Tuna, Prawns and Seafood Pasta

Slavinka also has several good options for guests who do not wish to have a whole fish.

Tuna features among the seafood main courses, while pasta and risottos with seafood are frequently ordered dishes.

Particularly well-suited to this type of restaurant are spaghetti with seafood and prawn risotto.

These dishes make sense for lunch right by the sea – substantial enough to satisfy, but without the heaviness of a large meat meal.

Wood-Fired Pizza

Pizza is an important part of Slavinka's offering and is not merely an addition for children.

It is baked in a wood-fired oven, which gives the dough a more pronounced crust and flavour compared to a standard electric oven.

The menu includes simpler pizzas as well as more elaborate combinations with prosciutto, anchovies, and other Mediterranean ingredients.

Pizza is particularly convenient if you are returning to the beach from the restaurant or want a simple dinner without a long sit-down.

It is also available for takeaway.

Grilled Meat Dishes

If someone in your party does not eat fish, Slavinka has a fairly wide selection of meat dishes.

The menu features steaks, pork, and other grilled dishes, along with more familiar continental dishes such as Zagreb steak.

The variety of the menu makes Slavinka practical for families and larger groups where everyone wants something different.

You do not have to choose a restaurant solely based on whether the whole table wants fish or meat.

Pasta and Risottos

In addition to seafood versions, other pasta dishes can also be found on the menu.

One of the combinations available is Istrian pasta with truffle sauce, providing an alternative for guests who do not want fish or grilled dishes.

Risottos naturally lean more towards seafood, with prawns being a common ingredient.

For vegetarian options, it is best to ask the staff what is available that day, as the selection is not as extensive as in restaurants specifically focused on such cuisine.

Local Hvar Wine

Alongside fish and meat, it is worth trying local red or white wine.

Viticulture is deeply connected to Ivan Dolac and the steep southern slopes above the village, where Plavac Mali predominates.

Slavinka produces its own local wines from indigenous grape varieties, so a glass of wine here is not just another drink from the wine list but part of the gastronomy of this part of Hvar.

Chilled white wine pairs better with fish and squid, while red wine is a more natural choice with heartier meat dishes.

Large Terrace for 75 Guests

The main area of the restaurant is a large covered terrace with approximately 75 seats.

It is open to the sea and spacious enough for Slavinka to accommodate larger families or groups without feeling like a closed restaurant space.

The covered area is particularly valuable during lunch as it provides shade when the sun is at its strongest on the southern side of Hvar.

In the evening, the terrace becomes even more pleasant, especially for tables closer to the open side with a view of the sea.

Just Ten Metres from the Beach

Slavinka is located in the front row by the sea, with the nearest pebble bathing area approximately ten metres away.

This is a significant advantage for guests who spend the whole day by the sea.

There is no need to change and drive to another part of the village for lunch. It is sufficient to take a few steps from the beach, sit in the shade on the terrace, and return to swimming after the meal.

Nearby, there is also a bakery and a small shop, making this part of Ivan Dolac a practical centre of the village.

Views of the Southern Side of Hvar

From the terrace, there is a wide view of the sea and the islands off the southern coast of Hvar.

On clear days, you can see Šćedro and Korčula, and the view extends further out to the open sea.

For this reason, it is worth choosing a table on the outer part of the terrace, especially if you are coming in the evening.

Slavinka does not have an exclusive fine-dining ambience, but its location just a few metres from the sea provides what is difficult to replicate in a summer restaurant through interior decor.

Lunch After the Beach or Dinner?

Slavinka works well for both.

For lunch, it is convenient due to its immediate proximity to the sea, the covered terrace, and the wide menu. Squid, pizza, or seafood pasta naturally fit into a day at the beach.

For dinner, it is worth choosing grilled fish, risotto, or a meat dish with local wine and staying a little longer on the terrace.

In July and August, it is advisable to arrive a bit earlier for dinner or reserve a table if you want to sit in the best part of the terrace.

A Good Place for Families

Slavinka is particularly practical for families.

The beach is right in front, the terrace is large and covered, and the menu is broad enough to find something for children who do not want fish.

Pizza, pasta, and simpler meat dishes solve the problem of different tastes at the same table.

High chairs are also available, so the restaurant functions well for families with young children.

Payment – Bring Cash

It is useful to know one practical thing before arriving at Slavinka: payment is in cash.

This is especially important to keep in mind if you are coming for dinner with a larger group, as Ivan Dolac does not have all the services available in Jelsa.

The simplest solution is to bring enough cash before arriving on the southern side of the island.

Arrival and Parking

The restaurant is located in the central coastal area of Ivan Dolac and is easy to find upon arriving in the village.

From Jelsa, you drive via Pitava and the Pitve tunnel – Zavala, and after reaching the southern side, continue along the road through Zaval towards Ivan Dolac.

In the village itself, the roads are narrow, so it is not advisable to expect a large separate public parking area directly in front of the terrace.

Parking is available at designated spots along the local roads and in the central part of Ivan Dolac, and the last few dozen metres can easily be walked. Parking in the property's courtyard is primarily intended for guests of Slavinka's accommodation.

If you are already staying in Ivan Dolac, it is almost always more practical to walk to the restaurant.

What to Choose at Slavinka?

If it is your first time here, it makes the most sense to stick to dishes that best suit the location and character of the restaurant.

For a true Dalmatian lunch by the sea, a good choice would be fresh fish or grilled squid.

If you prefer something heartier, consider the seafood pasta or prawn risotto.

For a simpler meal, the wood-fired pizza is one of the most popular choices.

Along with all this, it is worth adding a glass of local wine and, if possible, a table in the part of the terrace with an open view of the sea.
