Konoba Roki Fire – Peka and Vis Wine in the Interior of Vis

Konoba Roki Fire is one of the more well-known places on Vis for traditional peka, but it is important to note that the restaurant is no longer located at its old site in Plisko Polje. Since May 2025, Roki Fire operates at a new location in the Dol area, just a few minutes' drive from the town of Vis.

With the relocation, the space has changed, but the concept that the Roki family has been known for over the years has been retained – Dalmatian dishes prepared without haste, with peka as the main specialty, using local ingredients and wines from Vis. The new location is more spacious, has a large outdoor area, and its own parking, making it easy to arrive by car.

This is not a restaurant where one can come for peka without prior planning. Dishes prepared under peka take hours to cook and must be ordered in advance, which is an important part of the overall experience.

Peka is the Main Reason to Visit

The hallmark of Konoba Roki Fire remains peka, which consists of meat, fish, or octopus slowly cooked with potatoes and vegetables under an iron lid covered with embers.

Available options include lamb, veal, fish, and octopus peka, and a vegetarian variant is also offered. The long cooking process allows the juices of the meat or fish to blend with the potatoes, vegetables, olive oil, and spices, which is why peka is not a dish that can be prepared just after the guest arrives.

According to current restaurant rules, peka must be ordered at least four hours in advance. During July and August, it is advisable to reserve even earlier, as the number of peka that can be prepared at one time is naturally limited by the size of the hearth and the time required for cooking.

Peka is prepared for multiple people and works best as a shared dish at the table, rather than as a classic individual portion ordered just before serving.

What Else Can Be Eaten

Roki Fire is not limited to peka. After the relocation, a broader daily menu was introduced for guests who want lunch or dinner without a lengthy prior order.

Among the dishes available are swordfish steak, black cuttlefish risotto, and beef with vegetables, and simpler appetizers such as Vis flatbread, fish, and meat platters are traditionally served.

Vegetables play an important role in Roki's kitchen. The family has been using vegetables from their own garden for years, so alongside the main dishes, seasonal vegetables are prepared in accordance with the meal.

The offerings may change throughout the season, especially regarding fish and other ingredients that depend on availability.

Vis Wines with Peka

The Roki family's story is much older than the restaurant itself and is strongly connected to viticulture. The family has been producing wine for generations, and tasting wine was one of the reasons why the former konoba in Plisko Polje began serving food.

At the new location, there is no longer the old winery directly next to the restaurant, which is important as older descriptions of Roki's Winery & Restaurant from Plisko Polje can still be found online.

However, the wine offering remains an important part of the dinner. The emphasis is on wines from the island of Vis, particularly varieties associated with the island such as Vugava and Plavac Mali, as well as Trbljan. In addition to their own and family-related labels, wines from other Vis winemakers are also offered.

Peka and local wine naturally go together here, making Roki Fire interesting for guests who want to explore the gastronomic side of Vis away from the seaside restaurants.

New Roki Fire in Dol

The relocation from Plisko Polje is important to mention as many older tourist guides, blogs, and reviews still place Roki's among the vineyards of Plisko Polje next to the former family winery.

As of May 1, 2025, the restaurant operates at a new location in Dol. The same kitchen and service staff have been retained, as well as the peka cooks and organized transportation for guests, but the space itself is new.

The ambiance is still connected to the interior of the island, away from the crowds of the Vis waterfront. The larger outdoor area is particularly suitable for longer lunches and dinners, which fits well with the peka concept – there is no need to rush from one course to another.

Reservation and Ordering Peka

Reservations at Roki Fire are highly recommended, and during the peak season, they are practically necessary.

If peka is desired, it is not enough to just reserve a table – it is necessary to inform in advance which type of peka you want and for how many people. The restaurant officially requests that peka orders be made at least four hours before arrival.

No lengthy prior ordering is required for regular dishes from the daily menu, but it is still advisable to reserve a table during summer evenings.

Reservations can also be arranged via WhatsApp.

Organized Transportation to the Restaurant

For guests without a car, Roki Fire offers organized transportation to the restaurant. This is particularly convenient for sailors who have arrived in Vis by boat or for guests who want to enjoy wine in the evening without worrying about the return trip.

Transportation should be arranged at the time of reservation. Since the conditions and price of the transfer may depend on the number of people and the pickup location, it is best to check with the restaurant right away.

This is a useful distinction compared to many other konobas in the interior of the island, which are significantly harder to reach without personal transportation.

How to Get There and Parking

The konoba is located in the Dol area, west of the town of Vis. From the center of Vis, it is a short drive into the interior of the island.

The new location has a large parking area within the complex, so unlike restaurants on the waterfront, there is no need to search for a free spot in the town or leave the car far from the restaurant.

Roki Fire can also be reached by taxi or pre-arranged transportation from the restaurant.

Lunch or Dinner

Roki Fire is not exclusively an evening konoba. The restaurant operates most of the day from noon, allowing for a later lunch, which is particularly good for peka as the meal can be organized while it is still daylight and without returning to town late at night.

According to the currently published working hours, the restaurant generally operates from 12:00 to 23:30, although some days may vary. Currently, Saturday's opening time is listed as 16:00.

Working hours in Vis are highly seasonal, so it is best to check them again before arrival, as well as to make a reservation.

Important Information Before Arrival

If the goal is to try traditional Vis or Dalmatian peka, it makes sense to plan Roki Fire as a separate part of the day, rather than as a spontaneous place to decide what to eat only after arrival.

The most important thing is to reserve a table and peka in advance. After that, there is plenty of time for a relaxed dinner in the interior of the island, with local wine and without the crowds that accompany restaurants along the Vis waterfront.

The restaurant has outdoor tables, accepts cards, and according to current information, dogs are also allowed.
